Quick question from a newbee: I just bought an ampedbikes kit. Assuming I can gain a little speed, I would like to go to a 48v SLA set up. The kit comes with a 36v charger (with a male XLR connector). Can someone recommend an economical 48v smart charger? Thanks!

Check eBay, you may be able to find a used one cheap. I find a new one, but I had to change the plug from female to male, $39 8)

U could also just use a 12 volt charger on the extra battery and charge separately. I dont believe U can use the 2 in series, as they my not be isolated and U would get a short!

On a 12v smart charger he can connect all 3 batteries in parallel to charge all at once  Just make sure to use the 2 amp setting 8)

For that matter he could // all 4! But it could take a while! to charge:) I think i read somewhere that //SLA isn necessarily good for them :?

Idealy he would charge all 4 batteries one at a time from time to time. Rotating which one gets charged seperate would do this, but be a pain to do every charge. Get a charger from ebay, or a scooter parts web store.

Ooops, his going to 48v  It is ok to go parallel as long as all the batteries are at the same state of charge.

If you are adding a new battery, you just bring the 3 old batteries up to full charge and then after connecting the two (-) poles, use a car headlamp between the (+) poles to equalize any difference in charge.

If you don't do this, than yes, it may damage your new battery
