Hi All

I am trying to source a charger for my ebike project. I need 60v or so.

There are loads of cheap chargers on ebay with US style plugs but described as suitable for 230V input. e.g. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Electric-Bike-Scooter-Lead-Acid-Battery-Charger-Power-Adapter-US-Plug-60V-20AH-/252803271259

Presumably a batch was made with wrong plug molded on the input side. Does anyone have any experience of these? Are they sound in other aspects besides the plug type? Is it safe to just snip off the US plug and fit a UK plug?

Cheers

Ron

The US uses both 115/230VAC, usually both available in every house/apartment/etc.

The cord on the linked unit is removable, looks like a variant of the IEC type. So there are probably standard cords already available to you locally that would plug in to it and to your wall socket, as long as the charger is electrically compatible in voltage and frequency.

Initially I thought the same but if you look closely it looks like both input and output cables are moulded to the enclosure. The thing that looks like the IEC variant is the 60V output.

Has anyone used this type of charger? Is it safe?

just cut the plug off, and attach a 220v plug like you have in your house. More expensive chargers will have a switch to select from 110 to 220
