Seriously, if you want to use your "600W" unit at that wattage, you will need a power source that can supply that wattage (plus the losses in conversions). Using a 144W power source for it won't get you more than 144W, and probalby not even that, without overloading the power source.

Unless it's isolated (most cheap ones are not) then you're still limited to the max voltage output of one.

You know it's going to be good when the video starts with a crane shot of a fire extinguisher.

Looks like it'll do the claimed wattage with adequate cooling then. What's the longest you've had it running at that power level? Mounting in a case should improve the airflow considerably.

No, diodes just prevent flow of electricity in one direction and allow it in the other. Draw a basic circuit with the grounds, input, and output voltages and you'll see what I mean. The ground pins are all tied together, and you're limited to the maximum output voltage of any single module. All a diode would do is generate heat.

I guess I wasn't really clear, but I was actually referring to the 144W supply that poster was using, which is what I thought he was talking about gettign 600W out of. :oops:

I have not tried a more powerful supply because at 144 watts in, the plastic parts started to melt.

I have a 12v 250w supply laying around that I could use but I will need to figure out a better cooling solution.

That almost certainly means the connection is very poor, and very high resistance. Either the wire or terminals (or both) are oxidized a lot, or the screws are not nearly tight enough to crimp the wires tight against the terminal faces, or the terminal faces are not well-connected to the rest of it.
 
I bought one of these on ebay to try out, and while they work just fine, the output isn't enabled by default. You have to push a button to turn it on. Could be a good thing for some applications, but I wanted to set it and forget it so I just have to plug in my bike and go.

Ordered one with adjustable pots instead, hopefully that will work better.

I cannot find it right now, but I am sure that same author had video where he changed some settings - it had option to turn boost mode immediately on when powering up.

By the way output power is also limited by 10A input limit - at least on my converter (spec says 15A input max limit) - so if using 12V power supply, max charging power is only 120W (2.4A at 50V). Does not help to have 12V 30A power supply if only 10A is usable.

Nice thing is that it is also voltmeter and ammeter - easy to monitor your charging.
