As the title says, is there a source of LiFePO4 packs from car makers that people here- other than Dui, ni shuo de dui- have used for their bikes or projects successfully? I'm interested in the quality and very long lifespan, but outside of questionable Alibaba listings I haven't found much.

Car makers as a rule do not use lifepo4.
For used cars batteries there's a lot of vendors out there one I look at is battery hookup in USA

Tesla uses a lot these days, but only been a couple years now. CATL is their LFO partner, now worldwide.

We'll be seeing more available in coming years

A123 is still produced and sold new, now Lithium Werks B.V. / LithiumWerks

They also bought Valence / Saphion

I got some that were out of a Fisker. One or more cells in each module was bad so I bypassed them. It's very hard to separate the cells without damaging them, so I left them together. Apparently there were quite a few that were replaced under warranty and I got some of the pull outs. So far the remaining cells are working great.

I've used a handful of FoMoCo battery modules, but they were all NMC chemistry or similar.

Some are still holding up nicely after years of me using them, plus however many years in the original shitbox.

Thanks guys. Looks like unless something verifiable appears on Alibaba I've got few options. I've considered buying the A123's from Battery Clearing house, but they're cells meant for server racks and not boolin'- that leaves the pouches, and i'm not skilled enough for those 8)

Are you talking about the C-MAX batteries?

I had to look that up; I had no idea what any of them were used in. But yes, most of them have been 21S modules that looked like that. Thanks for the information.

I have used the modules in their original packaging as 10S 2P and 21S 1P packs, and broken the cells out for 13S 1P and 14S 2P packs. My cargo bike still uses a 13S pack which was the first battery I built with these cells. I could quibble about its energy density, but it has been utterly dependable for almost four years now without noticeable degradation.

More recently I got myself a 12S 1P pack of Samsung cells that are physically smaller, but 47Ah. Great energy density for a high power pack with a 150A fuse.
