I am looking to line the aluminum battery boxes that will be housing my a123 batts. The idea is to protect the batteries from shorting through the case and to dampen vibration. The places I've found online so far are pretty expensive, I would like to not spend $100 on enough to line my two boxes that are 16"X8"X4"

Do ya really need the high temp silicone?

4 sq.ft. of .032" neoprene rubber here for $62 plus shipping (good for 250°F):

Probably too thin for vibration dampening. If the 250F rating is OK, maybe hit up the windsurfer/surfer/sailing crowd for one of their worn out wetsuits...

EDIT: Hehe... 446 used wetsuits on ebay.com right now

Cooking supplies !!!.. they make cookie sheets with the stuff :

about 10$ should give you enough to do the job.

also usefull is foam rubber tool tray liners:

Or mousepads, for the closed-cell dense foam. They're everywhere, in all sorts of thrift stores in piles, sometimes. Yard sales, too. :)

I've seen pot holders and countertop pot stands made of 1/4" thick silicone rubber sheets, sometimes in dollar stores at a buck for a sheet big enough to set a huge crockpot on. Probably 18" x 18".
