Anyone seen a 36V->110-VAC Inverter?

As I dragged out 150 feet of extension cord to trim my lawn for 5 minutes, I looked longingly at my 6 DeWalt pack, thinking: there is plenty of energy in one of those packs to handle my trimming needs.

Problem is I have a 110V trimmer. Has anyone seen a 110V inverter that can handle 36V-DC (or 33.3V) input? I'm sure I'd find all sorts of new uses for my dewalts if I had one ;)

Still, good question, I could power a whole bunch of things with my pack as well if I had an inverter that could run on it (48V). I've seen such inverters, but they were very expensive (nearly $1000 I think). Has anyone found one that's cheaper? It seems to me the problem is that the assumption in the market is that if you need to use higher voltage, it's because you need a bunch of power. Therefore anything made for 36 or 48volts is also at the higher range of power output. If someone made a smaller unit that operated a higher voltage, or a range of input voltages, then it could be made cheaper and a bunch of use would have a use for it. For instance, there have been times I'd like to run my laptop off the bike battery.

I found some UPS (uninteruptable power supplys) that work at 36V

As low as $253, but still more expensive that buying new appliances. Be better if you could buy them without the SLA.

Stupid idea??????
Change 36V DC to 12V DC. Could do as Fechter describe here http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=2264
Then change 12V DC to 110V AC with Power Inverter.
Don't buy one like picture from Radio Shack. I had 3 of them. Thought my truck was on fire with the last one :shock: It smoked. They all lasted about a year. Buy new one, walk out of store, walk back in with bad one in new package and 5 minute old receipt. Radio Shack guy said he would call the cops. Then he gave me my $ :lol:

Now I got this one. No problems so far.

Right.. try to find a cheap used dead-bat UPS that ran on 36v of lead. Or find a half broken freebie one that wont charge the bats but still pumps out the 110, that'd be ideal. That compact stuff wont put out the power for decent sized appliances.

Sad but I use a high power DC-DC converter for my dewalts to give me around 300w of power at 12v then step it back up to 120v. Not very efficient but works well. I have another DC-DC so I should be able to run up to 40 amps of 12v.

I considered that approach, but no DC-to-DCs that could handle that much aperage were reasonably priced. Gotta good source?

Unfortunately there are no more from my source. But ebay is usually your best sources. I love the ones I got outline in this topic:
