Recently, I decided I needed something to listen to music with. My mp3 players hard drive went bad, and I don't feel like replacing it, or buying a new one. I remembered a couple years ago I got my dad a mp3 player, and he just go another one this year for Christmas. The old one's battery had long ago died.

I opened the player up (sorry no pictures) and removed the old battery, drilled a hole in the case, soldered wires onto where the battery was connected inside, and ran the wires out of the case.

The result
Konion/mp3 player hybrid Frankenstein!

Looks a little normal from the top...

It's hideous! Look at that unsightly hump on it's back :p

On the plus side, it now has a 3ah battery to replace the 800mah battery that was inside (when new, after I took it out, I tested it at 180mah capacity). Player now has about 100 hours of non stop play on one charge.

I'm going to show my wife this post tonight so she doesn't think I'm the only one who does this sort of thing, thx man. :D

@Vanilla:
My girl friend thinks I'm crazy too. Glad I could be some support lol.

@Ypedal:
That is awesome. I bet that drill had never had close to that power before those batteries! I am tempted to do that with a 18v ryobi nicad drill I have laying around. The nicads are not taking a charge well any more, and I have like 100+ konions laying around still from my last pack build.

Nearly everything I own is like that. :) Maybe that's why I don't *have* a girlfriend--they all think I'm *too* crazy. ;)

That's ok. It just leaves more time for projects. More money, too, if I had any in the first place. :p

I konionized my headlamp ! used to be 3x AA batteries that would quit in about 20 minutes with the xenon bulb, now it stays nice and BRIGHT for longer than i ever need..

And also my 6v mastercraft " drill " .. in stock form with something like 200mah nicads it could barely manage a few drywall screws.. with 2 cells it's now 8v and will drive a dozen 3" deck screws into the side of a 2x4 on a charge !!!! :twisted:
