These are both 36V500W CST motors but they seem to be different sizes, is it different motors? What's the difference between them?

Edit: I know one is a kit and the other just wheel/motor, but the motor size seems different?

Your first link shows two different motors. This is there typical shoddiness. They are known to send out the wrong motors too, and they offer no guarantee and have no returns policy. Thankfully the 500w cst only comes in one type though, so apart from the colour it should be correct. It won't be the dimensions they say either though. It is a proper shambles over there at bmsbattery. All totally undeniable, yet one or two members here sing there praises.

Take notice of what your seeing, and trust them at your own peril.

Hhmm I just did an order for a 500w CST from them the other day, its currently in "testing", couldn't resist as I have a bike that needs cassette big time.
I wonder if leaving a message on BMSbattery in my order saying that I am active on ebike forums with a big mouth might help my chances of getting a tip-top order?

It's possible. Only D8veh really sticks up from them and he is certainly somebody that shares his experiences. His history with them has made me pause for thought a few times. He is a prominent figure and was also one of there first customers. I think he may get served by the core staff members who look after him. His support for them has had me doing research to explain it, because I do feel he must have an edge.

I just ordered once because they have the 500w cst. It came damaged from bouncing round in the box, where it broke a bms board. Which was fine as both bms boards were faulty anyway. The motor damage was just the cable relief so no real problem thankfully. They were meant to tell me the spec once they got it in, but just sent it out to me, but that is just a moan. The two rims I also ordered puzzle me, as I'm sure I ordered from a list that is no longer present and they were not right. The spokes were also too short. However the spoke spanner fitted and the torque arms. The controller worked too. The order was perhaps 50% correct. They have not answered any of my mail since they sent the one saying 'dispatched'

That is a whole lot of wrong doing for just a single order. I'm just a voice on the net though. Look at there site and you should be able to draw your own conclusions. Wrong info, wrong pics, no warranty or desire to except returns. Postage costs are not fixed. I'm not sure how anybody can be happy with that.

Interesting!. As far as I know, I don't get any special treatment. I don't think I'm a big customer for them: $7000 in 20 orders over three years. I only recommend them because their stuff is very good value. The more stuff you order, the more you save, so when something does go wrong, you have to be philosophical about it. I've had one mistake from them, when they sent me a SWXU kit. Before I ordered, I told them I wanted a disc brake motor. They sent me an email saying that it was a disc brake motor, so I ordered it, but of course it isn't. When I asked them what they were going to do, they said that I got what I ordered, so tough. Because it was so cheap, I had no trouble selling it on to someone else who had rim brakes, so it didn't cost me anything. That was a couple of years ago. I've had no mistakes since. The type of mistakes we see here are typical of the Chinese suppliers. There's always a risk. The only time I get defensive about them is when people misunderstand what they've ordered and slag them off, or when all the trolls that join in when they've never ordered anything.

As far as I know, they've only ever supplied one rim. I just bought some, and they're the same as on every kit I've had from them. They've got the wrong ERD on their listing, but that should make the spokes too long, not too short. For the Bafang CST and their rim, you need 210mm for 2-cross.

I've just received a couple of their BMSs, the ones with the O2 chip. I wired up the first one in the correct sequence, but it didn't switch on. What was wrong with yours?

Hello D8veh. Thanks for the rim info. I had it in my head they offered them for disc or rim brakes, and importantly for me, two widths. I recall uming and erring over the choices, but now I just see sizes. I have two of the 26" one's for rim brake's should you ever need any. I don't know what happened with the spokes. I asked what to get and they said they use 186mm one's themselves. About 5mm too short for a 1 cross.

If your boards are for 13s no problem. Any less and you will need to take the + of the highest cell to cell 13 on the board. From here it feeds through R1 to P+. I will link you up with some more info if you need it. There is an active topic on connecting them, where the info can be found. What your missing is probably the need to reset the unit. Flip it over and round the middle are some test points. Some are for charge level leds, and one is labeled as the reset. It uses the slightly odd wording RSTD. After everything is connected up and ready to go, you momentarily short this pin to ground. Ground can be found by it's side.

The reset after initialisation setting can be changed in the software, but comes switched off. Without a good read of the lengthy documentation (not supplied and hard to find) lots of these must go in the bin.

If you want any testing or reprogramming doing, I recommend forum user crossbreak, over in Germany.

This is the one big problem from BMSBattery: that they don't provide this sort of essential information for their stuff.
