I need to locate basic tutorial information on tear down, repair, acquiring parts and any specialty tools, or anything else I need to repair my Bafang mid-drive motors and controllers. The specific units are the BBS02 (750W) and BBSHD (1000W)

I purchased a BBS02 last year, and it appears my controller is bad.
I purchased a BBSHD this year and it is making a lot of engine noise right now (after only 1000 miles), and it appears either bearings or gears are going bad.

I desperately need a mentor. I'll settle for basic information sources that can help me repair my Bafang motors and controllers. I have had very little success receiving any help from Bafang. (Perhaps I'm not Chinese enough.)

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Be aware, Bafang recently changed the controller housing interface, so there is an "A" and a "B" model. They look the same from a distance, only small changes in the shape, but...if you get the wrong one, they will not bolt up when you try to swap the new one in.

Depends how you want to fix this.

If you are looking for someone in the US who can supply parts, advice and potentially just fix it for you - Luna Cycles would be worth a try. I would be contacting them.

Alternatively, if you want to try to fix it yourself, the hardest part is diagnoses. Once you know whats wrong, its just a matter of finding the correct parts, cheap. The units themselves are relatively straightforward to dissassemble, replace parts and assemble.

BBS02 - sounds like you know the controller is bad. You can contact Luna to buy another if you want, probably best to send pictures and an explaination of whether you want Gen 1 or Gen 2. Gen 2 looks identical to the BBSHD as Spinningmagnets advised, and it is not compatible. Eric at Luna is certainly aware of this distinction.

BBSHD - might be time to take some videos and post them up. Anyone on here can serve as a mentor, its all dependent on putting up the right information to be able to determine what is wrong. Again, then its just a matter of buying parts and fitting them.

From memory, the dissassembly doesn't require any wildly unique tools, most are either usual around the house or bike tools. See the Bafang Section of the ES wiki - I have summarised tooling for installation and common problems from threads there. Other than a vice, philips head screwdriver and allen keys, I cant remember if there were any other tools I used for dissassembly in addition to those already detailed in the wiki.

And from memory, there a really, really decent dissassembly BBS02 video on youtube in German. I don't understand German but I was able to understand it just from watching it a couple of times.

And now there's an A and B model controller for the BBSHD.

A is all Anderson's

B the latest is apparently spade connectors.
