My bike bike now:

180W motor (I'm not sure if its brushless or brushed chinese made)
24V Nimh
and an Unknown controller (stock)

I would like to upgrade the battery only to gain extra speed.

Could I put a 36V on this motor/controller or am I risking a burnout? How risky is this procedure?

Your input is greatly appreciated!

If there are only two wires going into your motor, it is brushed, and controllers are cheap for brushed.

Thanks! I didn't know that. What would a brushless have?

Brushless motors will have hall sensor wires to sense position and phase wires to spin the motor, usally six or more wires altogether.
Thanks

Is there a rule of thumb for the voltage on a 180W motor?

Ping recommends 300W-500W motor for a 36V pack should I be worried?

Would a 36V Nimh vs LiFepo4 gives the same performance, if not, what is the % difference?

Thanks for the explanation!!

I do notice a "sag" in performance. I would love to go with the 36V Ping pack.

After more digging I found the actual model (Brushless):

I think this is my motor's detailed specs 24V 180W version:

The exact bike:

From these specs do you think it is still wise to risk the 36V on the motor? I know I'm rolling the dice on the controller.

I bought a new Prius 2 months ago. Love it.

Priuschat.com is THE place to get Prius info, at least by volume, IMO. Lot's of EV enthusiasts there.

If you have any technical questions, the Technical forum http://priuschat.com/forums/prius-technical-discussion/ is the best place to ask. Or just search for previous discussions.
