As to the OP, I looked at the Prodeco Tech Phantom 400, since you had mentioned that the hub motor felt unrideable to you without battery.
Just like I thought, that rear hub motor looks like the older style huge diameter hub. Probably heavy, doesn't look like something I'd want to pedal either..

The newer hub motors are much smaller, lighter, and still have lots of power. I have no trouble at all pedaling my Leisger CD5 with the battery switched off. Comes with great components. And what makes it really nice is the sine wave controller thing that feels really smooth the way the electric pedal assist kicks in a second after you start pedaling.
