Has anyone put enough miles on their BBS01/02 to come up with a good maintenance schedule?

I'm at about 1500 miles since I installed in last June, has worked through downpours and on gritty/gravel roads with no issues so far. Only maintenance headache is dealing with chain wear.

I'm thinking I ought to take it apart and inspect at some point, check the seals, maybe grease up the bearings. On the other hand I'd rather not do the work if these things are good for 5000 miles. Any suggestions on maintenance tasks and intervals?

Marc,
I had this question a few months ago and recieved some info from Teslanv

"I received this from Teslanv today
"My drive developed a clicking noise after about 450 miles of use, so I ended up taking it apart to trouble-shoot it. The problem ended up being a mangled O-Ring on the Journal bearing, which was easily repaired. However in my disassembly, I ended up cleaning off much of the grease in the gears.

I thoroughly regreased everything when I reassembled it, and it has been very quiet ever since. (About 700+ miles since the repair)

I used the following grease products:

For the Nylon Helical gearing, I used Sil-glyde.

For the Shaft roller bearings I used Slick Honey:

http://www.amazon.com/Buzzys-Slick-Hone ... ney+grease

For the Final Gearset (large Sprocket at the Crank) I used standard Moly Grease:

http://www.amazon.com/Valvoline-VV632-F ... oly+grease

I would say that you may want to consider a "regrease" after 1000 miles or perhaps sooner if you notice any strange sounds. I would also say that the factory applied the grease somewhat sparingly.

For resealing the controller wire penetrations for water intrusion, I would recommend 3M - "5200" sealant. I use it on boats and it is incredible stuff."
hopefully this helps anyone who wants to upkeep their bbs02"

Ive done nearly 2600km on mine now (1580 miles) . I did grease the secondary reduction part (since that was easy and i had read they factory could be a bit stingy with grease there) before i installed.

Am going to order some spares for bearings, seals and the nylon gear with sprag clutch later this month to have on hand. But that said its just me wanting parts available in case.

No problems so far and drive is still as quiet and grunty as when i got it. I'm actually expecting NOT to have to replac anything as yet but after i have parts on hand i'll open it up and re-lube the lot. Will be at about 3000 / 3500km i reckon.

Thanks all. I haven't actually had it apart yet. Seems a bit risky to use three different kinds of grease inside, but I assume they are either compatible or else isolated from each other? I actually have plenty of 5200 sealant, use it to plug leaks in a cedar hot tub.

It's going strong now, am thinking I will do an overhaul in May after the rainy season.

I'm sure this has been discussed elsewhere on the forum, but where did you find such a good collection of spare parts?

I'll be going through EM3ev as i bought the kit from Paul and since he is in HK he's close the factory.

Have discussed with him and he reckons he can get pretty much anything in the way of parts provided i dont want them immediately and can tell him exactly what i want, which is cool with me.

Apparently he is a not keen to supply bits to people who didn't buy kits from him though.

Your in the US? Try: http://california-ebike.com/product/bafang-8fun-mid-drive-replacement-parts/

Wouldn't use them myself as i am in Oz ( and there are a couple of people here starting to import and supply i could try) but have read reports here that they are a pretty good supplier. If the bits you want aren't in the catalog try emailing them and see if they can get them in.

has some useful discussion and most of all photos about bearings in the BB section..
