Well, that was an easy fix. Upon rereading I see that I have both front wheels locked down. Then I remembered about the eBrake which I connected to the front brake!
I released the front brake and Bob's your uncle. Throttle: check, C961 display: check, Grin external PAS inducing forward motion: check!
