Hi guys,i have had my BBSHD for a couple of years now and done about 3000 miles on the motor. The battery i use is a 17.5 ah 48v and use the bike as a commuter and for leisure. I do take it out in rain when going to and from work and rarely use throttle for top speed runs but yet ive had 2 controllers fail now.
Is this to be expected with the BBSHD? If so is there a more reliable controller i should upgrade too?

Mine is 2 years old and 7000 km on it. I ride it in Alps, high stress. Had error 30 for few days, slow startup of controller and light buzzing sound when on (unussual).

It failed today, it seems capactior blew (bang and black dust inside)
Ordered new one. Hope it works as ride with no motor is just boring

"throttle for top speed runs"

never good idea any bbsxx

short bursts 100% power only

understand controller peaks around 1500w

design rated 1000w continuous

enable 9 power levels

ride all day level 7 or below

8, 9 or full throttle is gamble

There is never a full load on WOT in optimal gear such as 1:1. It keeps changing with inclines and wind before the current is staring to reduce again.

My BBSHD is coming up on 9,000 miles with no issues and no maintenance. When I plugged in and changed the programming for the first time I also set max amps at 25 instead of 30. I did it more to ease the strain and wear on the hardware (chain/chainring/freewheel/etc.). So now I max out at around 1,250 watts (with a 52v battery) instead of the 1,600+ watts that is the stock setting. Max amps of 25 probably contributed to its longevity.
