Hello,

I've read lots of information about greasing the BBS02 but there seems to be some conflicting information about the need to grease the BBSHD. My HD has about 70 miles on it and I want to keep it running smooth. I don't ride it hard and I'm always careful limiting stresses on it.

My question is, should I take it apart, clean it and grease it with Mobile 28 on both primary and secondary gears? I've got the grease!

Does anyone have a link to the break-down procedure? Electric bike had a good write up about doing this for the BBS02 which ended with a note about a potential future article about greasing the BBSHD. Did a greasing article about the HD ever get published?

Any thoughts much appreciated!

Cheers,
John

I recommend highly that you take off the crank side pedal and ring, remove the screws to get to the final nylon drive section and cram as much of that goop in there as you can, using it to press out whatever that bit of stuff the factory uses.

I did this after about 100 miles, on recommendations from this forum and my BBS02 went from smooth to near silent. It's been about another 1700 miles now and I think it's getting time to do it again.

I never opened up the other side, as doing the right hand side seemed to be the ticket to happiness for me.

Just FYI, mobil 28 was said to be standard grease on the BMC geared hub motors. The lubricant should be compatible with any type of gear out there. Good idea to start lubing your mid drives with em.

ES member Deafcat is recommending Mobilith SHC 100 as a better alternative to Mobil-28. The name sounds like it is lithium-based (white grease?). I will have to research this...
