BBSHD model confusion

Hello,
I'm just starting on doing research for my next e-bike conversion, which will be a mid-drive. Looking at the various options, the BBSHD has got me confused. Looking at Bafang's website, I see at least two versions, the MM G320.750 and MM G320.1000. Maybe there are others, but their website doesn't easily navigate to the available options.

The spec page on these two versions are identical. The only difference I see is in the text description, which is also identical, except substituting "750W" with "1000W" in the first sentence. Is there a difference between these two units? I see about a $200 difference in price, looking at Amazon, for example, when selecting the same display options.

Thanks ahead of time for any insights. I searched the forum and only saw one post that sort of matched, but comparing the Bafang BBSHD (1000W) to the Luna Cycles version of the BBSHD (750W).

I'm fairly that they are both identical except for the programming.
Basically always get a programming cable with a BBSHD so you can tune the settings to your liking.
In the tool you can also change the current limit and set it to the maximum (30A).

Yup. Get the cheapest one and a programming cable. You'll want the cable anyway.

I wouldn't even be surprised if they were programmed the same and just had different markings stamped on the motor for legal reasons.

But you still want the cable.

I got my bbshd from ali in 2018-july and firmware was locked at 25A. Beware.. It seems it had weaker controller. Now i have new one from fasterbikes and it has propper controller.

Good to know. Was it advertised as the 750 W or 1000 W model? From reading up on them, it seems like the BBSHD has some other advantages or upgrades relative to the BBS02, to enhance reliability, so might be the way to go if you just want a more reliable 750 W motor.

It was advertised as 1000W model (30A max current).

Wow, hard to buy with confidence. Thanks again for the info. Lots to consider before rolling the dice.

Gee , I can't see how buying for price from an anonymous foreign vendor could create any problems.
Actually I am amazed at the proportion of DIY ebikes that are built that way.
It's rather surprising they work at all, for any but a few.
To me it's not "you get what you pay for" as much as having someone with recognized
experience vet the product and get paid for their work, given the gray market, third shift and counterfeits out there.

I saw Bruno's tour of the em3ev shop on YT.
Him, I cannot endure, and think he does much that is unwise, but the tour was great and showed a shop that has the capacity to deliver, and isn't a dropshipper with only alibaba to vouch for them, as a great example.
Transparency and service rank high and I see the value in the cost.

Everybody has a different tolerance for gambling. I can go to Vegas and plop $200 at a time on the craps table and have fun doing it, even if the odds are against me. My brother in-law would have a terrible time and be stressed on doing the same thing. No fun to go gambling with him.

If you want a sure thing, you buy a complete ebike from a major manufacturer with very deep pockets. They have a lot to lose if something goes wrong and get sued, so they make their systems as bullet proof as possible, but you pay $4k-$5K for that. I may end up going that direction at some point, but I'm having fun right now, and don't mind the gamble, but I also like knowing my odds.

Even Teslas are catching fire or crashing now, and for the price, they shouldn't be a gamble, but nothing is a sure thing.

I just bought a BBSHD kit from CNEBikes in China to install on a Surly Pugsley. Received it in 10 days. Everything is just the same as the last kit I bought from Luna (except the price). They were VERY responsive to my questions during the process, answering my emails within minutes, All is good.

It came with standard BBSHD 1000W (30a) programming, but I changed it to more mild settings that I like.

I decided that there was no value-added from Luna. When I bought my last kit from them, I had ordered the optional 42T Lekkie chainring, but it didn't line up well. I called them to return it, but they wouldn't take it back because I had installed/tried it on the bike. Duh.

As someone said, everyone's tolerance for risk is different. It's my opinion that CNEBikes would stand behind the product and would be responsive if I had an issue.
