Hello,
I am new here just posted a topic about a Farmall CUB tractor I will be converting soon. My friends and I have started an intentionnal community and one of our goals is to stop using fossil fules. In that endeavor the first of many steps is that we are buying electric bicycles. The first model we are looking into is an 9 year old Bionx 24v LiMh system. I find that it is important that I am able to properly maintain and replace the batteries in the pack. I am also looking forward to building agricultural tools that work with electrical motors and wish to be able to make my own batteries. So far I have seen many topics that refer to building, there is plenty of information for me and I am sure I will find the proper technology for my needs in time.
I am mainly interrested for now in knowing what basic equipment I need for maintenance, repair and building packs? Are there any equipment that can enable me to use different technologies?
Thank alot!

If you're concerned about maintainability, you probably don't want to go with BionX.

You can rebuild the packs in them, but the older ones don't have balancing capability, and are rather dependent on the spinel LiMn chemistry to remain balanced.

Is the 24v pack a LiMn pack or a NiMH? I seem to recall the lithium ones are 26v.

In any case, you can rebuild them with a spot welder, but it's not the easiest thing on the planet.

Yes the kit we are looking at is LiMn. I am not quite sure what you mean about the balancing capacity not being present. Is it he batteries electrical hardware or the charger that dosent support balancing?

I am looking to get the equipment needed to build packs and test, charge and balance cells myself.
