Bike lights running on battery

I made my bike lights run on my ping battery. I put a lyen voltage converter in paralel with my battery to go from 48V to 10V.

It was working, my lights shined but it was only for 60 seconds, then they died and I couldn't manage to bring them to life again.

Now I'm wondering what could have gone wrong. These are the components involved:
- Ping Battery
- Lyen converter
- Flashlight MTE SSC P7 C-Bin 900-Lumen 2-Mode LED Flashlight (1*18650) bought at dealextreme -> this flashlight normally runs on a trustfire 3.7v 2500mAH battery, I modded it with wires to connect to my ping battery
- Two 12volt led strips function as the rear light
- On/off toggle switch bought from ebay. Rated 2A 250V AC / 5A 120 AC. I know its AC but I didn't/don't think this would matter.

So these are some possible things I think may have gone wrong, what do you think is the most likely or are you thinking about something else:
- The dealextreme flashlight couldn't handle 10 volt and is fried? If this is the case why do my rear 12v leds don't shine anymore, they sure can handle 10v?
- The on/off toggle switch is fried? But why? because its AC?

If also got to mention that my on/off switch has 3 connections, I only used 2, one red wire in and one out, I figured the 3rd was not necessary in my case as everything seemd to work properly. Why are there 3 connections?

if the light is made for 3.xV and your pushing 10v through it then yea, that will probably kill it. ive got one from DX that takes anything from 3 to 12 v, however at anything above about 6 it uses switching electronics to get the effective voltage back down below 6volts or so, you can hear it humming quietly when running at 12 volts. without this 'protection' from the higher voltage your light probably wont last long.

as to the rear lights, no idea. try hard wiring them (short circut the switch). that will at least tell you if the switch is busted.

I'd guess the 3V light fried shorted, drawing excessive current from the DC-DC, which then died.

OK, I've checked. Both my light and my DC DC converter are dead.

Time to buy a new converter and light. Anybody know a good 12V light voor an affordable price?
