I ran across this bike on eBay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=7247799189

The color is pretty obnoxious, but I can't figure how they are offering a rear hub motor, 3 SLAs, a bike and all those flutes and whistles for $250. The shipping is almost as much as the bike.

Can anyone tell from the pictures if this is a frame that won't hold up?

I like where they put the battery and the head and tail light.

Looks like two locks, main power and battery box.

I can't see a manufacturers name, and I didn't find much on the seller.

Other than the fact that it is SINFULLY UGLY and has no place to put front disc brakes, it looks decent.

What I find very interesting is that hub motor. It looks identical to a 400-series C'lyte...

Well, it's certainly inexpensive - and a $2.99 rattle can of flat black would help with the garish factor! Of course, it you're a circus clown - it's YOU!!!

The pics look pretty good, but frame durability and etc is mighty hard to determine from pictures. I rather like the location of the lights and controls. There might be a little profit built into that shipping cost, but not a whole lot. When faced with such a dilemma, I often ask out loud "Well, Big Guy, how bad could it be???" Finding the answer to that question tossed out to the universe has certainly had some interesting results, most of which I can laugh about now. Generally they weren't so amusing when I was in the middle of them.

Hi,

An understatement :!: :!: :!:

I quite like it :D, but I'm sure they cut some corners to get the price down that low.

Well at least you'll be seen in traffic. hehe. Either the yellow or blue would have been ok, but BOTH?

Looks like a great starter kit, or a nice bike for a teenager so they can keep up with your commuter machine. For $150 you could buy a WalMart bike for another $250 you'd have a motor and a cheap controller. So, the rest of the cost is in the batteries and the ABS plastic. It seems to me it has plenty of room for some proper batteries and just in the right place for a well balanced bike. The weight distribution overall looks fantastic. I'm thinking the tires are 24", they don't look like 26"s to me anyway.

At that price the frame is likely to be good ol steel. Plenty strong even if it is cheap. If nothing else, you can pretty much put everything on another bike if you want to. The place they saved the money is the controller, but that can also be changed later for more power. At 350 watts, it won't be fast or good on hills as is.

If you do speed it up, you may find the top gear quite a bit slower than your top speed. May or may not have room for a bigger front crank. Upgrading the front forks is possible, and if the bike is a 24" then the front wheel could get bigger just by adding a bigger fork, and then that fork could be one that takes a disk if you wanted it.

If you allready have a good bike, it's not that much cheaper than a lot of the kits out there.

It looks like a slightly modified EV Global bike to me. If it's the stock motor, it's a brushed, geared Heinzmann. I'm running mine at 56V and it tops out at 24mph and has torque like a diesel truck!

The price is good.

Ok that's better. Boring, but better.

Sometimes boring IS better, Tyler! Thank you - and thank Photoshop (Or whatever image manipulation you use)

I agree. It is an EV global ebike knock off. All the extra weight is exactly in the right place.
If I didn't have a spare EV ebike I would think about getting it.

That is what I was thinking, that this is the chinese rip on the global ev, done after they stopped making em. I doubt its a real hiensman but it does look like one. The frame alone is a good start in my opinion though. Nice place to put the batteries is a big plus. Ride it till it breaks and then buy a 5304 for it.

Hmmmm......The rear motor looks very familiar, the whole bike really... I purchased a few new e-bikes from China a few years ago. Turned out they were total junk, but the rear motor set-up looks identical,it was only 250w brushed, and I CERTAINLY recognise the rear band brake!(Note no V-brake or disc)The motor was ok for 250w,but the brake was utterly useless! The rear shock had about 1/2" travel and a spring good for about an 80 .lb human. Despite the flashy moulded body(Much nicer than the yellow-blue thing)it was cheap and pathetic in every way....Every bolt, screw and spoke rusted in no time, the only usable part was the motor,a controller died and it was tiny, like the chargers which all died. I can see that bike is of similar origins...I spent more hours fixing them than riding them.I would not pay $5 for that bike, you will regret it. I spent considerable money making them fit to sell,I was very relieved to see the last one go.

They should sell that with a matching blue and yellow spandex bodysuit. And a cape.
