BMSBATTERY PROBLEMS???

deviate, you should be able to see the top of the tab on the back of the switching transistor. it will be next to case wall, separated by the silicone rubber pad. you can check continuity by putting one probe on the top edge of the tab and the other on the case. if it has the rubber sleeve that encloses the entire transistor then it could be nicked open at the top with a razor so you can get the probe inside to contact the tab. if you do that measurement and show the guys at BMSbattery a picture of the voltmeter with the short visible on the dial then i doubt if they will make you return it. they just wanna know it is really dead and that they are not being scammed. we have done that before.

i have those transistors if you decide to work on it.

Before ordering from BMS battery, pick up a pair of dice and roll a 9 or higher 3 times in a row. Those are your odds in having a smooth transaction with BMS. Also, be prepared to wait several months.

All kidding aside, I hear that it really depends on what you order with them. The people who tend to have issues, including myself, had some sort of battery with the order.
That's a bit extreme. It might have been a bit closer to the truth four years ago, but things are a lot better now. Defective items are pretty rare and delivery rimes are normally in the range one to three weeks, depending on what you order. The older style batteries push your order to the three week end, but the newer downtube ones seem to be quicker. They must have them in stock. Things like controllers and chargers are despatched very quickly.

They didn't argue. They sent a replacement the same day I emailed them.

I'll do the measurements next week. Hopefully I can save it. I've had to put all my ebike stuff away so that I can concentrate on my tax return. 4 days to the deadline.

I'm amazed they responded to you so quickly. They seemed to ignored and lied to me until I put in a PayPal dispute.
It must depend on what the complaint is. I've had a lot of orders from them and never complained before, so they should trust me. Maybe other people are getting the same problem with their chargers too. Who knows?

There must be loads of people that buy incompatible or the wrong stuff from them and then complain that it doesn't work. How many people on this forum buy an ebike kit and don't know that they have to connect the ignition wire? For every one we read about, there must be another 10 who either complain or just chuck the stuff away thinking that it doesn't work. How many people buy a sensorless motor and sensored controller? It must be very difficult to deal with all these problems, especially when you can't speak the language.

I spoke with Jack Xie, the owner, the last time I was in China. He's a really nice guy, and he does care about problems that people get. He's selling mainly components rather than a turn-key solution, and as you know, it's rare for a motor, battery, controller, PAS or throttle not to work these days except maybe LiFePO4 batteries wrapped in gaffa tape.

"except maybe LiFePO4 batteries wrapped in gaffa tape"

hey, watch it, i resemble that remark.

i just wish they had cheaper shipping options. i think this is a holdover from ebay where ebay cannot charge the vendor a fee based on the shipping cost so some vendors shift costs over to shipping to spoof ebay.

I also resent that! My last battery I built is wrapped in duct tape (but not lifepo4) and it's going great! :D

Hey Guys

I am planning on buying stuff for my first build, especially a hub motor and a battery.
There seem to be many different opinions on bmsbattery and the condition of their items after shipping.
So very concrete: Did you order lately from bmsbattery? Are the batteries allright or do they make wrong claims? Did the motors reach you in a fine condition ore in pieces? ;)

just bumped into it while searching for li-ion suppliers on alibaba.

Prices seem to be quite low compared to ping Battery

Has anyone tried them yet ?

From what I've read on here the biggest thing heard is that they make up for lower prices with high shipping prices. But, that's just second hand I have had no experience with them.

I bought a 36v 10ah rear rack battery from them about a year ago. Shipping cost is high. Took 2 weeks to get the battery, but I did get it in good order. They sent me a charger with a 220v European style plug. After several emails back and forth, and photographs of the charger's innards, they confirmed it was in fact a 120v charger with the wrong plug. They never sent me the correct plug, I had to go to Target and spend another few dollars for an US 110v adaptor. I wasnt too happy about that But at least they communicated with me about the problem, and in a manner that I understood. No language barrier. I'd do business with them again.

I saw this thread on reddit and had to chuckle. Look at how BMSBattery puts their batteries together. This is why i warn people against buying from them. ( bias confirmed! )

In this case, the BMS is probably doing it's job. It's just working very hard because the cells are far out of line and it has to discharge one or more of those cells for a very long time, building heat and burning the case material

Quality and good design are not things that BMSBattery are known for..

The side that's hot is the charge/discharge MOSFETs, not the balance resistor array which appears cool.

To discolor the FR4 like that, it's way too hot to be near the cells without radically impacting calendar life.

D'oh. Goes to show what i know about BMSes. I've literally never used a battery pack with one. My battery management is a stick shift, not an auto..

Anyway, it's still a funny design issue. I've opened many BMSed battery packs and disconnected the BMS for manual revival of the battery or cycling via an iCharger and a variety of adapters.. every single pack i've opened has had some type of insulator or air gap, usually 1/4in. thick between the bms and the case and between the bms and the cells.

I read here on ES that BMSB's BMS's dont balance, but most likely that poster was wrong.

So if one was to buy a battery pack from BMSB, is it worthwhile just to chuck their BMS, and install one from Greentime or BestechPower?

Multiple users here have reported mismatched cells in the past. I don't know if that's still going on today.

Don't ever buy a battery pack with cells that you've never heard of nonetheless. These are second or third tier cells. Go with a pack that has name brand cells in it.

A battery is a long term investment, i mean; they're expensive and you want them to last for years, right? know what you're buying.. and if someone won't tell you what cells you're getting, avoid at all costs.

at the risk of being off- topic...T

I had a problem with a29ER MAC 8T being damaged, as it happens i was in Shnghai and Paul fixed, no worries
+1 em3eV for supporting their gear.

Plan to order a 20 inch bike kit from them (without a battery for now)
How reliable is BMS?
What to expect for shipping charges for less than 5 kg?

they have a tendendcy to get the motor speeds wrong, then make you jump thru hoops and when you think you have wasted your money, they surprise you with a generous offer.
You need communicate with them personally, in addition to placing the order.
Try and get them to repeat the motor speed in an email. Jack Xie writes the best English.
If all goes well, in the end(is there ever an end to this ebike stuff?), you get the best values in the Ebike industry, especially their Samsung cell batteries.
I have ordered quite a bit of stuff from Elifebike with no problems and I like their controllers better, although the BMS B. controller can be great for the right kind of rider.

Why are you not getting the batt. now?

Maybe you should out-line your kit and what you want to build while you have our attention.

Always wondered why some canned Chinese phrases, to be used in addition to English in order to enhance clarity when ordering motors, haven't been collected here yet for pasting into email or web order forms. This forum seems big enough that there must be some people here who know Chinese. The people at BMS Battery if no one else. Canned phrases would only help when the customer knows what motor he wants. Won't help any other situations. Or could using them cause other problems?

Example phrases might be:

I want a 36-volt label code "8" 378-rpm motor
我想 36-電壓 标签 代碼 "8" 378-转速 電動機
Wǒ xiǎng 36-diànyā biāoqiān dàimǎ "8" 378-zhuǎnsù diàndòngjī

Please confirm that you understand
請確認您了解
Qǐng quèrèn nín liǎojiě

I don't know that the above is correct but it's probably close. The only Chinese I know is from watching Zatoichi swordfight shows.

Or, if not Chinese phrases, how about a picture of the motor's inscription like casainho's below marked up with the desired code?

I just wanted to point out to fellow ebikers that paying for any purchase on PayPal in more than one transaction, in theory invalidates your PayPal buyer protection. It's been pointed out to me by a fellow biker that PayPal wouldn't know about the extra transactions being connected with the first purchase, and that's hard to disagree with. However for those who like their insurance policies to be strictly valid because of the feeling of security they give, this may feel important.

I'd also like to paste below two emails I got from BMSBattery recently asking for extra money to send a) an order with a battery after a few weeks waiting for it, and b) an order without a battery after a few days waiting. Both orders were straightforward, without additions or anything. I have just now paid the extra for the second order (in fact by paying for the whole sum again, so as to enjoy PayPal buyer protection) because I can't risk delays caused by haggling as I need the order to go on holiday with, but cancelled the first order because I would rather buy from trustworthy people.

4 August 2015 after waiting 2 weeks for battery order to be tested, packed etc:

"hi,
we are sending your order by DHL ,but your shipping cost is not enough ,you need to pay extra $25."

11 August 2015 for order of a controller and LCD after a few days waiting:

"hello ,

We are sending your order by fedex ,but your shipping cost is not enough ,you need to pay extra $15 .now EUEXP2 can't work now ."

A fellow pedelecer, had his battery sent by EUEXP1 for the regular rate, only a few weeks ago.

"(silence)" - three weeks after being invited to send in pics and video of my KU93 not working in PAS mode.

I'd also like to post part of the PayPal Seller Agreement which BMSBattery seems to be ridiculously in violation of:

PayPal Seller Agreement:

I hope you reported them to paypal.
This vendor has been screwy for many years and they deserve to get dinged.

so i broke my charger and have been wanting to test out bmsbattery chargers for awhile now was my chance
ordered one of the 400w ones at 45 bucks...ouch shipping is just as much now it was up to 86.46...
have to now take a hit for the loonie being so low...117.xx
and last get a txt from dhl needing 19.55 so the 45 dollar charger turns out to be 3x the website price
glad i didnt order a 1000 worth of stuff up front
i will say the shipping was very fast but bms does and will take a week to test,qc,pull out of warehouse
before it will be shipped out
thx wasp

Been there done that, $90-$120 for 400W charger is no bargain but whaddya gonna do when the need arises?

Single order BMS chargers (or anything) can really suck with shipping/customs. Unless I can add a couple to a larger order I mostly keep an eye out on eBay for adequate chargers with reasonable s/h charges.

If you can plan ahead, I’ve occasionally scored some comparable bargains ($20-$40 shipped) from domestic sellers. Often, surplus and/or replacement mobility scooter chargers very similar if not identical to BMS Alloy chargers. Never hurts to have spare chargers for your battery pack(s).
