Brushless dual 6kw ALIEN Power system - electric longboard

the build is well on the way now my new Carbon deck in Red is on order from the states! super light but strong and with a kick tail for those dam kerbs!!

The new ABS battery box is also nearly complete just the base and battery retainer to instal-

Two lovely (1 spare) battery box covers in indestructible ABS!!]

Bruno has also nearly finished my hand controller so its looking good for a full test run soon!!!

Cheers- hopefully it will last a bit longer than the perspex one!!
Bruno's Twin Alien ESC fit's beautifully into it ,Ive just to tidy the electronics up- P.s Its amazingly strong is the ABS you can make all sorts!!

That battery box has come out nicely! This is looking like a really professional build, looking forward to see how it goes. I'm not familiar with the longboard deck you chose, is it very flexible? And is the battery box designed to flex with the board? Or will it make it more rigid?

That is a serious looking ESC, what are the specs of that?

Hi stieiz
I'm no expert on long boards ,but after many many hours researching the net- I came upon the earthwing- I wanted a modern look to the board hence the carbon and this give strength and weight saving!! It's suppossivley got some flex and the battery box is ABS so that will flex with it. Plus the tail kick will allow kerb ridingbeasier!! :D
The ESC is from Bruno who makes the Alien power system --he's on the forum ,very helpful guy. There a really nice piece of kit - nicely compact but powerful, I believe mine is a custom 2in 1 controller 150a.We've got a fair bit of testing and tweaking to get the braking smooth and optimal motor settings... I cannot wait!! I'm also designing and building a mid drive RC system for his wicked downhill bike for him
I will update with photos tomorrow at work.

Battery box is basically complete so i've fitted it to the 'donor' fpr now until my shiny new Carbon arrives from America!!
I will use the other battery box mold for the new board and hopefully cut it out a bit neater :? I think i will be changing the arming system before then also..
Notice the Lipo low voltage alarm and volt meters i've added :D

Wow, this is one impressive build, i see what you mean about the Velcro now.

So how do you charge this after use? Do you have to remove the panel to charge it?

yes that's the down side at the moment- When I change the arming system i will try to incorporate a charging point- but as theres 2x 5s packs they need charging /balancing separately really- so it may just have to be remove lid- no biggy!! I may also try to make that quick release some how- its only 4 screws now...

I put an order in for one of the Boosted Boards first electric boards. your build is the slickest electric longboard build I have seen in the wild. Keep it up. Can't wait for video!

Hi grindz145
Thanks - I think it's coming along nicely!! I have to say the boosted board is my inspiration as soon as I saw it I thought"that's what a nice eboard should look like" I actually think I've improved on the concept- my design does not require any machining or modifying of the trucks or wheels unlike the boosted board- I can just replace them if/ they break- I can even go for smaller or larger Abec11 wheel's as the hubs are all the same size.
I've also got more power and more battery life--- :D
I do like the slim design hand controller but hopefully my wireless nunchuck will look pretty smooth. 8)
I just waiting for my carbon deck from the States and ill be rolling!! I also thought it would prudent to buy some knee and elbow pads for the first run!!

Yeah no kidding. I'm thinking about buying a longboard just to get used to riding it, and then upgrading to an electric longboard when they're available :)

Are you running both motors from one controller???

Yes he is, Its a dual motor ESC.

Its a really good idea actually, alot of electric skateboards are using 2 motors. I was wondering if this ESC has one "Brain" to control both of the 3-phase H-bridges or does it have a separate microcontroller for each?

Cool It does look like a bad ass RC controller I can't wait to see results from Luke on it!
I have a few builds with RC motors I would love to see a good RC controller last on. Even if you have to add a fan on the heat sink.

HI Arlo 1 and Steilz
The controller is a custom built unit from Bruno at Alien power Sytems-http://endless-sphere.com/forums/memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=27393
I believe he has already supplied another one to spooky on this forum- It has dual brains which can be programmed individually but in one package. we first used sensored motors but he found that the small size of wheels didnt need it.
We have some testing to do and also some fine tuning of the motor setting inc hopefully regen braking!! watch this space.

What can we do with the throttle signal for the individual brains. Can we have it try to turn one motor slower then the other?

Hi Richard, I just been around the web and your board is the best i have see so far. Well done my friend. The new regen firmware is ready for you. We will update the firmware when i will back from italy......

Hi Arlo1, The throttle signal is single. The throttle signal wire are connected together. The two brains can be programmed individually but the throttle signal is single. It because you in situation like two motors, installed transversely or longitudinally, you have the same throttle response on both motors, but you can program each motor in terms of brake, ABS, traction control etc individually. Regards

Bruno

Hi there I'm looking to start a dual motor e skate board I would like to make mine a bit lighter then yours. I like your idea of putting a motors on a diagonal. Just wanted to ask where u got or if u have your drive system made for the Abec 11 wheels, and also what motors did you use? And if u could suggest a 35 or 42 mm motor that would work well, I'm only 59kg

Right I've got the board running and I've had good run around the estate!!! Wow wow wow !!!! Is all I can say the thing pulls like a train and I'm on about 30-40% throttle!!! The braking is smooth and acceleration is set to soft and it's still ridiculous !!
This is without helmet or pads as they haven't arrive yet...so I'm taking it steady.. I still got up 24mph which feels quick stood up
I'm really pleased so far and the motor and controllers are not getting even warm, well done Bruno mate!! I've just been up to my mate about 1 mile away all up hill and it accelerated up the hills .. Then was just very slightly warm at the top.
I've still loads to do, new deck arriving soon along with pads .so I'll do a full speed run then.
I've got LEDs and maybe a red battery box to fit and of course the wii nunchuck to do and the surprise controller,, Watch this space.
I still don't know how to embed video- so here
Photos to follow

Excellent!
When are you guys going to start selling the kit? :D
Do the brakes work going down a steep hill? No regen correct?

It's smooth braking - maybe just a tweak to get it perfect .but yes regenerate still to do .. I forgot about that !!im so excited .
I'm currently getting prices for the brackets and hubs... I was shocked by the first price as I don't realise the time I spend machining them... It's free to me. So I've tried to simplify the design for manufacture .
Please let me know if people are interested in a kit as bulk is cheaper!!
