Brushless Hub Motor shuts down after 2 seconds

Hi all,

First post, and used the help function , but couldn't find an answer to my problem.

I just received a second hand brushless motor kit 24 V (edit: link removed, it's a Tongxin motor) with a 24V 10Ah phylion battery (xh259-10j) as my first e-bike kit.

The problem is the hub spins perfectly whith the pedal assist, but only when there's no resistance.
So it only work when I have the bike hanging with the wheels from the floor, or when I have it upside down.

When I want to ride the bike the motor shuts down after a 1 second work, then I have to power down with the battery key to turn it back on.

I also tried to connect the twist throttle, and that also works perfectly when there's no resistance, but also when I want to ride, the leds of this throttle turn off.

Looks like the motor is asking to much power that can't be supplied.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Sounds like the battery either isn't charged up or it's shot. Under load the voltage is dropping below the LVC. Should have about 29V on a fully charged 24V 7s li-on pack.

Those Phylion batteries, when aged, often show good voltage (29v when charged), but as soon as you draw any current, the voltage collapses, so your controller shuts down. The voltage will bounce back afterwards, which makes it difficult to see the problem. If you use a real-time voltmeter, you'll see it. My guess is that you'll need a new battery. Show us a picture, and we can recomend some supliers. It could be an opportunity to go up to 36v for more speed, power and range.

Tnx for the advise.

Voltage when full is at ~27V

I wil see if I can make a video of it.

I've made a video.

The voltage drops already when activating it with the PAS after the second time with the wheel from the floor.
I don't even have to ride the bike to see that the battery fails.

DO NOT OPEN this link, it has a VIRUS!!!

Please remove it!

Wasn't aware that site is infected, I didn't receive warnings from my virus scanner!
I removed the link.

Now I'm in discussion with the person who sold me the kit.

He told me to switch cells, and see if this helps.
I really don't want to start doing this, but if eventually we can't come to a closure together, this might be an option for me.

Can someone fill me in what to do when defective cells are switched, or taken out?
I have limited electronics knowledge, only a multimeter in my posession.

Thanks

The battery is junk, hopefully you paid little for it. In general, until proven otherwise, used batteries are worth $0.

You just need to get an entirely new battery IMO. Then we can help you with any other faults the seller failed to let you know about.

As I said, those Phylion batteries are scrap when they're behaving like yours. You'd need a complete new cell-pack to repair it, which costs about the same as a complete new battery.
