Bubba's Build 4

Dirty-E-Dan lives in a neighboring town to me, but VR is just temporally close by. Christian and VR are long time buddies from Pennsylvania. VR and Dirt-E-Dan were roommates at Appalachian State University in Boon NC. Dirty-E-Dan has graduated and VR is in his senior year. They were all down at Dirty-E-Dan's family business working on a new project. They have promised to start a build thread so I will not spill the beans for now. I got to ride VR's E-tech version II which is one awesome trike. Version 1, that we saw in his build thread, was crashed by one out of control test rider.

I am aware of the crash of his V1 E-tech trike. That is such a bummer. I am familiar with their top secret project too. We have been going over it for some time. I just overnighted a few parts for it. :)

Anyway, they are great guys, to be sure. I am privileged to know them.

The battery and controller mounting is taking shape. It has holes for two 12s 5 ah lipo packs and a 18 fet controller. This time I used 7/32" plywood that had 5 plys instead of a 1/4" 3 ply door skin. I lost one water bottle, but still have 3.

Build 4 is now operational. The wiring harness needs to be redone. It was all finished and then I remembered that I had a Turnigy meter to add so the harness just got wadded up on top of the controller for now. Under heavy load the nine tooth sprocket sounds like a roller coaster car being pulled up the first hill. It is annoying. Probably have to go for more reduction in the first stage so I can run a bigger drive sprocket. It was a good first run. Nothing broke or needed adjustment.

Kim,

At least you don't have to wear a scarf to keep for sunburning a bauld head. I keep the pony tail because I can't decide if I want to do my coam over from back to front or side to side.

Bubba

My dad also keeps what we have come to refer to as a "skullet"...and does the combover back to front.

It's SCARY.

BWAHAHAHA too funny... Reminds me of one of the worst comb overs i have ever
seen

comb-over.jpg

The Don...you would think being a billionaire he would spring for some plugs or
a decent wig hehee...

Thankfully i still have a full head of hair, i if i did the comb
forward though i would look like cousin IT
I just couldn't do that to the wiminez population though, depriving them of my stunningly handsome
chiselled greek godlike face would be a crime,

Hi Bubba, what guage aluminum sheet did you use on the outside of the wood? It looks like it can't be more than 1mm thick, 16ga maybe?

Hello!

Wonderful work!

How have you attached the sprocket and the big HTD pulley to the shaft?
And how have you attached the small HTD pulley to the Motor shaft?

Thanks a lot

The big pulley was milled out to accept a freewheel and uses one of recumpence's freewheel to 1/2" shaft adapters. The small pulley uses two set screws. Some folks call them grub screws. I drilled dimples in the motor and jack shafts to help keep the pulleys from slipping.

Kim,

Not a whole lot to report. Mostly I been ridding my build 3 and build 4 bikes. Most of my ridding has been 40 miles or less, so I am removing one of my battery packs from build 3. This will be working the remaining 5 ah 6S pack harder, but not excessively. It will be interesting to see how long the pack will last.

Build 3 is a single speed and I have been missing having gears. Build 5 is in the planning stages. I have a Turnigy 63-74 in hand for this build and a 12 fet controller on order. It will be another rear rack design, but I plan to use aluminum instead of steal for the rack. Maybe no wood this time.

No progress on the new CNC.
