Hi guys
Im wanting to put a simple type of on/off switch (ex: toggle switch) in between the battery and controller
Id like to mount it at the handlebars.
My battery voltage is 72V. My controller is 45A/1500W I have XT60 connectors but Id rather use a simple switch to flick on and off rather than
plugging and unplugging a connectors.
Any recommendations for this voltage and amps?
Thx in advance!

Failed to mention your battery chemistry or cell count but this would do the job and also protect battery pack:

Your best option is a switch to control the BMS as Ykick was showing. A simple switch for ~50 amps and high DC voltage isn't so simple. If you try a normal switch at that voltage, you can easily pull an arc between the switch's contacts in the exact same way you would do so in an arc welder. the solution is a long throw high amperage switch like they use for car battery disconnects. http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/321065414703?lpid=82&chn=ps But those are big. not something most people want on their handlebar. Having a BMS with a switch would solve that problem.

I use those big honkers on 100v bikes with a pre-charge momentary push button.. push button, wait a few seconds.. flip switch.. release pre-charge button.. and rock on. also handy to remove the key and take with you when the bike is locked out of sight so people can't mess around and power it up..

Depending on how you got the pack mounted, you might be able to find a good spot you can reach while sitting on the bike but mount the switch to the frame, not the handlebars so the main power cables are not twisted every time you turn.

Oh I should have mentioned..is 18 cell 72v LiPo with no BMS.
So with no BMS can I still use the item Ykick posted?
However the large key switch is a possibility. I dont need to mount it on the handlebars..just somewhere along
the power cable

The thing Ykick mentioned was a BMS. Basicly you would add a BMS, then add a small switch.

The Big switch works much better if you can mount it near the pack. Adding longer battery wire is usually a bad thing, especially on a high power setup like yours.

As for your voltage, normal convention for stating system voltage is to use the nominal voltage. If you're running Lipo, that's 3.7 per cell, making your battery a 66.6 volt pack.

10s would be 37v. 20s would be 74v. 21s is 77.7?
