Caterham Ebikes

Have a close look. It has a Bafang mid drive behind that bottom bracket cover. The cranks are a dead giveaway together with the Bafang C961 display and hand controls. At least we know it can be fitted a 750W system which pumps out close to 1200W via the throttle override.

I was a bit surprised to see Caterham make the jump to making e-bike (or at least e-bike prototypes). I had not thought of it much until this afternoon when I noticed my bike hanging out with Caterhams latest(Lola's), the SP300r. I think racecar manufacturers may be one of the surprise new companies that come into the E-bike business. A lot of my racecar designs and techniques have made it into my e-bike and at the high levels of motorsports electric systems are well honed and here to stay in motorsports.

Just came across a you tube video showing Caterham (the car company for the non-petrol heads) doing their own e-bikes, seemingly the fashionable thing to do for car companies these days.

Turns out they are using the bafang mid-drive system. Well if it's good enough for Caterham...

Something wrong there. The bike is well finished, but the electrical install is tatty. That shouldn't be a show bike. It's embarrassing. You can tell it is not theirs.

If they were a bit closer I would tidy it up for them. Really the bike bit and the electrical bit need designing together though. That there is not done by one team, or even under single leadership.

I might be wrong, but I've worked with carbon vinyl and that bike looks like covered with vinyl.
