Hi all

So after shipping took 2 Months (after selecting DHL Express on the luna page) I realized they shipped a US 110V Charger despite me asking for the "international charger" version in the notes.
Then again they also didn't read the notes on the order at all... and there was more bad stuff with them, but maybe I'll write something up at some point... anyway.

So I got this battery pack but no charger for 230V... https://lunacycle.com/batteries/chargers/luna-charger-48v-advanced-300w-ebike-charger/
Could I just buy a BionX Charger?
The battery pack is: PANASONIC battery: Shark 48v NCRB 13.5ah
The charger I'd buy would be this one: https://www.galaxus.ch/de/s3/product/bionx-batterieladegeraet-48v-std-li-mn-e-bike-zubehoer-326688

Thanks a lot in advance!

- Tiju

edit: changed the title to be more on-content.

[strike]edit: someone in the reviews @ luna says this charger supports 230V, but I can't find anyone else or a document confirming this... ?![/strike] <- not the case!

The bionx charger is not ok for the luna 48v lithium pack! this bionx charger only wurks with the 48v-13s bionx batteries incl bionx bms/pcb...the output voltage for this charger only 26vdc so dont buy this charger!

You need a good 6A 48v 13s Li-ion charger for 230V EU.

Take a look@ batterylabs.nl ww.gleco.nl

I'm sure they could airmail you a replacement charger in a few days. It's posting batteries that's the issue.

My instruction book for the Luna mini charger states it works on voltage up to 250, and can work in Europe with a plug adapter. I cannot test this for you though, I haven't been to Europe in a while.

when you read description of your charger it says:
"2A or 5A with the twist of the knob...."
what knob? cannot see any knob on this charger.

this misleading to me.

OK

The charger will have permanently written on it somewhere the operating voltage along with other operating parameter, safety advice and signs of conformity to safety standards. If the voltage is a range, like 100-250VAC 50/60Hz then you're good to go, it just has the wrong plug on it. If it says 110 or 120VAC 60Hz you have a U.S. only spec unit and can't use it. However, many/most electrical devices nowadays are capable of working anywhere in the world on a wide range of voltages and frequencies, so the former scenario is most likely.

If such information is not on the charger then that's not a good sign as it's illegal to sell it into the EU. Even the cheapest, nastiest, shadyiest stuff from China have such labels, even though the safety declaration will be fake.

Thanks for all the replies!

They actually already posted a replacement. They only have a non-switchable "plastic charger" though in stock for 48v and 230v... I'll have to live with that...

Could not find a 48v 13s charger at gleco and neither at batterylabs :-(
Thanks for the info about the bionx charger!

Label says only 110V....

The image on the page of the charger is completely wrong, there are two knobs where you can select between 2A and 5A and 80/90/100% ...

Looking for an adjustable 48V charger now which can take 230V ....

Personally I like to charge 18650 ebike packs that have a bms, with a meanwell HLG type brick.
They come in a few sizes. The max voltage and current can be adjusted. They are passive cooled and completely silent.
For my old 180cell 12s15p pack, I have the 320W version. Have a wattmeter on the leads to know when the current has tapered off.

[strike]How do I know if the Battery has a BMS?[/strike] :) (just read that all luna battery packs have a BMS built-in. :)
Also, do you have any recommended source(s) for getting such a brick?
Would be nice to have a Charger which reports the capacity it put into the battery like my RC-Charger does...
