Charge via Anderson plug

I thinking of getting an BBSHD ebike kit and an EM3EV 52v 17.5ah battery. The battery has an 3 pin plug for charging but wondered if the battery could be changed via the Anderson plug feeding back through the BMS? - 'in reverse'

Thanks, Looks like the answer is no you can't discharge and charge on the same port with the EM3EV battery.
Why it is, I can get a charger for cheaper than the battery supplier but it has an Anderson connector on it. The generic? one on the EM3EV I can't seem find a supplier to change the from Anderson on the cheaper charger.

Don't know what a "3 plug" is, but if it's a male XLR, then you could buy an Anderson to XLR adapter, make one yourself, or just cut off the Anderson and solder on an XLR (which is what I did on my last charger). Changing out connectors is normal course of business for DIY ebiking, so I think it's better to make purchases based on specs and features, and accept the necessary evil of changing out connectors.

Sorry that should have been ' 3 pin plug'
I've just come across this thread about the plug https://electricbike.com/forum/forum/main-forum/general-discussions/116351-can-you-help-identify-this-charger-plug and it appears to be a generic. I'm familiar with XLR plugs and most power plugs. No problem for me changing out the plug - I'm into electronics.

Yup, you just need to factor the cost of the connector into your cost savings equation. :thumb:

:D
I know, I can get a charger from Aliexpress for more or less half the price of one by company 'X' and it would be nice to use the original plug on the battery but can't a supplier of the 'proprietary' one on the EM3EV battery

I guess the other, but less desirable, way to go is the change out the connector on the battery. Do you have a picture of the EM3EV connector?

No I don't have a picture directly as I don't have any ebike bits yet. I'm just pricing up the bits and pieces and working out the cheapest and best option. This is from the link a posted further up but it's not my picture https://imgur.com/59lLQ67
It might be best to get the battery and charger from the same company, at least that way any potential warranty issue with a separate charger wouldn't be a problem. 'Yes sir, but you didn't use our 'special' expensive charger' .....

How about a link to the battery? Somehow you determined the connector has 3 pins, so is that from the website?

There's several reasons, but one reason not to share power and charging ports is they need different levels of fuse protection. A high enough amp fuse for the power wires is too high to protect the charger wires typically.

Good point on the fusing, I wouldn't change a 17.5ah pack more than 5 amps as it shortens their life according to the Samsung spec sheet.

17.5Ah of 35E would be a 6P pack. Per the spec sheet you referenced "For cycle life : 1,020mA", so 1A x 6 = 6A charge rate for better cycle life. 5A shouldn't be a problem.

EDIT: sorry, messed up the math, 17.5A of 35E would be 5P, so good for 5A charging.

The '17.5Ah' is a 14s5p pack although I think it's actually a 17Ah pack(just checked it's 17Ah), either way charging at 5 amps would be fine.
