Do you have a BMS or are you in need of some way to balance charge it?

If you just need a bulk charger, a mean well set-up is a great solution.

If you need to balance charge, you will probably need to break the 16S pack down to either 8S or 4S and balance charge in Parallel.

I generally make a Parallel/Serial Harness like icecube57's set-up, and balance charge at 4S Parallel.

that charger ad on BMS battery is incorrect. most BMSs for lifepo4 now use 3.60V for the balance voltage so if you charge to 3.55V/cell the battery will not balance and eventually will get so far outa balance that it will not work. good for them i guess since then the buyer will purchase a new battery thinking that the battery is dead since it is so far outa balance it will not store charge.

a 16S lipo pack charges to 67.2V+ so your 58V has no meaning at all. you can buy the 16S lipo BMS from bestechpower for cheap.

i do not know how you can overcome the ignorance of the people at BMS battery.

16s3p lipo pack is 67.2V fully charged, so you need to have that bms or any charger set for 67.2V. Your best option would be to wire a 16s bms to it, but you could use battery medics to to balance the pack. Another option would be to do what teslav said and use an 8s (minimum) balance charger and split the 16s3p to 8s6p to charge. I do this with my 24s2p pack I charge as 12s4p. But if I didn't already have a 14s balance charger I'd just get a 24s bms for it.

16s does get awkward. But a 150w 8s RC charger and power supply to run it is pretty affordable, and would give you the ability to balance 8 s at a time whenever you choose.

I'd say if you are going into lipo, this 8s RC charger can be a great starting point. Later on, when you are bulk charging naked, or using a bms, you may still find it very handy to have an RC charger in the house.

For example, I bulk charge now days, at 14s. But as my packs get old and tired, I retire them to run my 24v mower and weed whacker. At that point the packs need balancing charges more often, and I just use the old RC charger for those packs. Plus I can use the RC charger for all kinds of stuff I may encounter in the future.

I'd advise starting out with an RC charger of some kind. However, perhaps you already have one. If so, the next step will be getting a bulk charger than can be set to 67 v.

IMO, you'd have a lot better selection of chargers if you went to 14s. You can cut 4s packs in half easily to make the 2s packs you need for that. I love my EM3ev charger because I can flip a switch to get a half charge, 90% charge, or full charge. That's a very cool feature to have in a bulk charger.

But if you want the very best 48v charger, get a satiator from Grin.

You guys are the best. I didn't expect this amount of good answers. Thanks a lot! :)

I don't have a BMS. Can I use a bulk charger if I have a BMS? Will this card take care of all balancing for the pack?

I have a 8S RC charger that I might be using to start with.

I'm following all your links and read all info I can find from your tips and thoughts and it's a lot to learn. I'll be back soon with more questions :)

Thanx!
