I've got a 36v 500watt kids motocross bike with a key ignition. Occasionally it loses power. I turned it on the other day and the ignition lights were flickering, and I could hear a clicking sound, and wondered if it was a relay? There was no power, so I shook the cables, and it started working again.
I replaced the ignition switch a while back because it was intermittent, but I don't know if that clicking sound was happening (maybe that just happens when there's a fault with the ignition?) -After replacing it, everything was fine for months.
After writing this, and thinking it through, I'm wondering if it's a problem where the ignition connects to the controller wiring. Perhaps replacing the plugs on the controller side will fix the issue? It's just one of those cheap, generic, brushed controllers with a load of cables hanging out of it.
