I bought a nonworking electric bike I used a 36V charger and converted the output connection I used my multimeter on the two battery terminal on the bike so it did not say minus the same on the charger and put them in corresponding holes XLR plug.

I ordered a new charger and its the other way around not used it yet but it looks like the red goes to the green it came from China so not high quality

Did I connect the correct way the first time

what would happen if it was not connected the wrong way round

You can't assume anything based on wire colors, especially when it comes from China.

Check with your multimeter, then check again.

Connecting reverse polarity could have results ranging from:

The charger simply not working because it's smart enough to know what you did

Blowing a fuse on the charger, which can be replaced and you get to try again.

Blowing something other than a fuse on the charger, which you may or may not be able to easily diagnose and repair.

Yeah, if you connect a "not minus" voltage to the same on different wires, and don't cross the wires, you will have it connected the right way.

The multimeter doesn't lie, but you can screw up as a human so triple confirm everything and work with as few wires at a time as possible.

Be careful with the used battery. Make sure there are no low cell groups. Watch the balance.
