Hi!
The nihola bike is great, the wheels steer independantly from the box, which helps handling a lot, sadly out of my budget though. I got the kids seat that came with the bike, it's easily removable, made out of some sort of styrofoam with a soft cover over it and has a three point harness. The bike has no suspension so I'll be replacing the tires with Schwalbe Big Apples, bumps and vibrations are handled by the bike pretty well as it is though as they don't seem to impress my 11-month old, he absolutely loves the bike and even takes naps while riding it.
Finally, after first receiving the wrong item from Crystalyte Europe, I have been able to put together my first build this week. After ordering all small bits and pieces, controller and the wheel I pretty much ran out of budget so to get up and running I had to buy an SLA pack instead of Ping. Here's the specs of my initial build:
Crystalyte HT3525 in 26" singlespeed wheel
Lyen 12 x 4110 Sensorless controller
48v28ah SLA Pack (36 kilo's!)
Doing the conversion was pretty straightforward, batteries sit in the box under the bench, controller is located next to the batteries and the bike is operated with a thumb throttle. After an initial test I set the controller at maximum settings I dared to try (48v 65A, 120% speed) and it was time for a first test drive, which was mighty fun. 3.2kw is waaaaay more than plenty to get a total weight of almost 200kg moving. If I open the throttle I literally get launched to 30km/h, and I don't have the balls to go any faster, from 15km/h and up acceleration is so fierce it feels like it really wants to lift the nose, what would be a great feat as there's 36kilo's of lead in the front. Motor and controller stay reasonably cool even when riding aggresively. Today I lowered the power to 20A (1kw) and that's just perfect, still drives the maximum allowed total weight of 300kg easily even on a grade, only one problem, carrying full load (me, my son, 60kilo's of sand for sandbox, plants, pots, etc.) and driving low speed (14km/h average, 24km/h max), everything heats up pretty bad, after driving 4 miles back home from the store both the motor and controller were pretty hot to the touch, 60-70 Deg. Celsius I think. What is the maximum acceptable temperature for motor and controller? I'm planning on buying the bluetooth speedict device with temp monitoring, it supports 2 sensors so I could place one in the controller and one inside the wheel. I have to remove the cover on the freewheel side anyway because due to sheer stupidity I have broken off the freewheel thread, so I might as well open up the other side too to insert a temp probe.
If anyone has a spare cover for the freewheel side of a HT motor please let me know, also I'd like to know if a HS3540 or even an X5 cover would fit??? I have no idea on size and dimensions of the X5 motors...
