Hi, I’m not sure if I’m posting in the right place, but I could use some advice. I’ve never worked with copper before and just ordered a small roll of it, and I’m not sure if it’s the right size or type.
My plan is to spot-weld nickel tabs to the copper and then weld that assembly to the battery pack. I’ve always used nickel only, but the battery I’m building now requires a lot more current than what I’m used to. From what I understand, nickel welds easily but has higher resistance, while copper handles higher current but is harder to spot-weld directly, which is why the nickel-to-copper sandwich method is often used.
I’ve read that thinner copper (around 0.1–0.2 mm) works better with hobby spot welders, but I’m not sure if what I ordered is suitable. If it’s not, I’ll still use it for practice and testing sandwich welds.
Also, any links, quick guides, or references would be greatly appreciated. I learn better hands-on, so examples or reference material would really help. I’m also looking for recommendations on the best cover sheets to buy, including thickness and sizing. This pack will need to handle roughly 100–200 amps, so any guidance for high-current builds would be helpful. It’s a large pack, and I’m not entirely sure what the final use will be yet.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
