Well, unless you're picking it up at their physical store (assuming they have one), it's actually gonna be $95, not $83. ;)

I suppose there's nothing wrong with trying one (I wanted to build something similar for CrazyBike2 for a long time, but decided something more like Thud's 2-speed dog-clutch style would be better). Keep in mind that the belt friction makes it less efficient than a chain drive like a bike's, though exactly how much so I don't know. Also, belt slip when wet could be a problem, unless it's fully sealed (I couldn't tell for sure from the pics).

It's not a small thing, though, at 10" x 6.5" x 5.5". I don't know it's weight but it is probalby not light, either. It lists it's "ration" ;) at 1:7, which if that means what it should is a fairly wide gearing ratio. I guess it depends on what you really need for a transmission.

These belt CVT drives do work, although they are a bit inefficient. gwhy converted a scooter fitted with one of these CVT transmissions, here: http://www.endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=17576

I'd have thought that one of these drives would work just as well as the system gwhy used.

PS: THe Prius doesn't have a CVT in the conventional sense. The primary electric motor generator is permanently connected to the front wheels, the ICE and the secondary electric motor generator is connected via a power split device, which is just a clever fixed mechanical ratio differential.

cool thanks for the input i dont know much about these things i thought belts where less resistance & weaker, i just know those cvt trannies r all the craze these days and wanted to throw it out there to see what u all smarter than me here think, btw thanks jeremy im gonna check out that scooter thread, makes me wonder about those cheapo $500 escooters on ebay if u put a meaner motor in there
