hello all,

I've been trying to install the front fork from my dahon jetstream after a long while... it's a new fork that fits now.

But I think I've lost some part and it seems there is a retainer or something that should prevent the fork to wobble. I attached the headset picture as it is, then I added the retainer then the cap.

Where can I find the right "upper head tube race" as indicated by sheldon brown?

I may also need a compression ring.

I suppose the dahon jetstream type of headset should be standard? Where can I find these parts for decent price?

Thanks

Best bet is likely to buy an entire new headset. I've never really seen just parts for sale, other than perhaps bearings.

I've had a few develop a wobble, because for a long time I was putting the bearings in upside down. Unless I still have it wrong, the balls face the race in the frame. Your picture shows a sealed bearing, I have only had the open type.

Some individual parts are available only for high end headsets. Cheap ones are best replaced entirely.

What size is the head tube on the bike? It looks like the entire cup is coming out of the head tube. Did you put a 1 1/8 headset in a 1 1/2 head tube? Even if it is a worn bearing, and the headset is the correct size, you should not get that kind of wobble when it is tightened down.

The first thing that comes to mind if it is the correct size headset is that you are missing a spacer. The cup is obviously shot though if it will just pop out like that anyway.

Hope it works out for you.

Thanks, I tried to add an additional spacer on top but it doesn't fix the problem.

Here is the picture of the fork:

Any idea what's the best way to proceed?

Thanks guys, really appreciated

Based on the pictures, you show 3 sets of bearings. the bearing that you show that you are using for the top is different than the other 2 and might be a different diameter, swap out the other bearing so you know that the top and bottom are the same size and see if that helps.

Also the parts that you can't remember what they are for appear to be dust seals.

Personally, I would scrap that headset and get a sealed cartridge bearing headset off of ebay. I have used the Gineyea headset on crappy bikes successfully and it is only $12.00. The cups are only good for one install. Once you remove them, they are shot though.

Good Luck

Yes the bearings are part I've been purchasing there and there such as this one:

Shall I buy this headset?

Are all parts included and with bearings too?

Thanks
