difference between VESC and KT controllers? (open source)

If wanting customization / FOC / all the good stuff having been developed in both,

Kind of curious why one would opt for the big KT controllers?

The VESCs are higher voltage (normally) - much more available in the US, the programming software seems more refined - and hardware is fully open sourced (many make these themselves with a BOM / circuit board).

All VESCs are 50A+; the KTs seem hard to find even in this power range, and are massively large.

Communication as well between more VESCs.

VESC ~v4 are around $70 USD (amazon) - the KTs can be quite a bit cheaper, but shipping from far east.

Thanks for clearing up,

Hm. The Kuntengs are plug'n play for Ebikes. You get them with various Displays and Sensors like PAS, thumbthrottle, brake-switches Everything with plugs that fit to the controller... You don't need to change any parameter to make the wheel spin. If you want to finetune something, you can set the parameters with the display, no need for a PC or mobile app.

With the VESC you get a naked controller with no software implementation for Display, PAS, torque-sensor, brake lever switch, no suitable connectors for the peripheral devices, ....
If you just want to use the throttle, it may be OK.

Thanks for reminder on ease of more control aspects that can be integrated into the KT -- it seems a few of those have more solutions with the configuration tools available (throttle/display) - like folks using a joy stick for doing throttle/regen braking.
