Hello,

I am curious about converting my Bicycle into an E-bike. I have a bunch of motors from my RC Helicopters/Plane hobby that should be more than sufficient in terms of power. The one I am thinking about using is a 4.5 Kw brushless motor.

What I am wondering is if there is any kits where you can provide your own electronics in order to build an ebike? Something that provides gearing or hubs or the physical aspect and then I can use the equipment I already have (ESC's, Motor's, Batteries, etc) to complete the project?

Thank you,

Jason

A few years ago, there was a year with a LOT of RC system experiments. Bigger motors are better than smaller. The only ESC that that seems to survive is the Castle HV-160, and even then they need additional input voltage ripple suppression capacitors.

Some of the more successful and simple, easy, cheap, applications of RC motors for Ebike applications have been the "Friction drives", of which there are many versions on here (try a search) .
One of the best kits is likely Keplers. https://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=84905

Awesome,

Thanks for the info! ESC's have come a long way in the last few years, I have always had great luck with the latest versions of Hobbywing ESC's. I wonder if the new breed of ESC's with much faster processors and improved firmware will work better?

What is the recommended power? When I look at many kits they are saying 250 to 1000 watts of power? The motor I have is rated for 4500 watts continuous.

Are you thinking about a friction drive? or a single-reduction to the rear wheel? or maybe a mid drive. No single RC motor and ESC fits the bill...need more details.
