Do you think the United States lowering ebike assist speed would help or hurt the adoption of protected bicycle lanes?

Protected bicycle lanes are also called type IV lanes and here are some examples of what they look like:

I speculate that American culture is about self-independence from safety regulation. I should be allowed to eat Frosted Flakes, yes I can know that refined sugar is not-good for me but they, "TASTE GREAT!" and thus we have the Modern American Diet (MAD) and it's unavoidable consequences.

Adoption of transit paradigms (for example - protected bike lanes) is a non-linear function that has little to do with rational policy making. What is the pathway you are aiming for and what is data that will help you answer it?

Yes.

(Sorry, I'm about to retire, and I'm feeling a bit giddy.)

I will say I would love to see much more of those where I live.

Since I see the lance armstrong wannabees going well over 20mph on the multi-use paths (which are far safer than "protected" lanes) why not just have a speed limit for those lanes that is inclusive of any kind of [legal] bicycle? Why single out electric?
