Does one eBike stand out as best?

Aldby,

Are you saying you can purchase the above bikes for 500 pounds? What Benend was looking for was ideas for less than $1000 US. If you can purchase the above bikes for that.... That would be a sweet deal. They sure are pretty

They sure look like they would blow a $1000 us budget to me.

Kyakdiver,

Sorry, I didn't read the whole thread. For $1000 you could only get a pile of junk in Europe. The Kalkhoff Pro Connect for example cost $2800 in the UK, my Wisper 905se cost me $1600 and that is a bargain. The regular retail price is $2400.
The electric bike market is quite small in the UK and dealers are charging big bucks because over low number of sales. The cheapest Izip for example costs $700 and a Schwinn Continental $2200, but these bikes are considered to be quite poor and don't sell. Schwinn electric bikes are not being sold in the UK anymore because they are so unpopular.

Last week, the Schwinn World GSE was listed at $1699 MSRP.

Today it's $2199

Most discouraging. Looks like the Giant Suede E is the way to go.

It's still just over $1000. I've heard that it will be released this summer. I hope so.

The Giant Suede has been available in Europe and I assume in North America since 2006. In the UK it proved unpopular and a poor performer compared to the old Giant Lafree.
A much better buy would be a Ezee Liv which is available in the US from http://nycewheels.com/ezee-liv-electric-bike.html . With the NiMH battery it is $1150. The NiMH battery has proved to have a longer lifespan then the Li Ion one, although a new improved version of the Li Ion is now being produced.
Although over $1000, it is probably the best ready made bike for the money.
