E-S Stealth Electric Bike Owners

Hi guys, here's a few random pics that we took at Waikerie over the weekend at the Toyo Off-Road Enduro in the Riverland north of Adelaide, South Australia. We organized a Stealth exhibition and gave a bunch of punters a few demos. We didn't have too much notice but we managed to get it together, just. Some real expensive hardware and some nutso racers. A little bit off topic but some of you out there will enjoy the pics. A couple of photos of a remote cam chopper, gps, xyz axis gyro systems, real-time wifi video and almost full carbon fibre build. $20,000 worth of kit. Aiden the film maker was filming the enduro event for a national station here "7 mate" & took some deliberate shots of us belting through the pit area on the Bombers. Haven't seen final results yet but should be on tv over the next month or so. Hopefully it won't end up on the cutting room floor. There was also about 4 punters their with Stealths stomping through the camping area and around the track. Some of the pics are a bit ordinary sorry but it was either dark, dusty or moving too quick. :D

Cool photos!

Quick question, I had my bomber covers off, and someone in the house have been a little too effective throwing away "garbage", so all my screws for the side cover is gone. What are the dimension on this screws?

Hi Arcticfly The screws are M6 x 10mm black button head screws

Very nice vids and pics Hugh, thanks for posting. I really like the first vid with the tight trail riding. Reminds me a lot of where I grew up. I could watch that footage all day. Here is a quick vid I put together. This was taken from the footage I had up in Boise. Its probably the fastest portion of the ride, I didn't push it to quick though because all I had on was sandals, shorts, and sleeveless shirt. Anyway it was fun and quick.

yeah Rick i did notice your lack of helmet in the last video too... very nice spot to ride you have there. I will have to try and get some video of riding in some NZ native bush sometime for you to look at!

Anyone got any ideas for a rear vehicle mounted bike rack?

I am looking at buying the campervan we hired last weekend so we can get away and go riding more often. I need to find a bike carrier to bolt on behind the camper that will hold at least one bike (bomber) or better still both bikes... quite happy to get it bolted to the rear frame rails. I guess a motorbike frame may be the best option. I saw Brian (quiterush) had one on the back of his yellow Van which supposedly was supplied by stealth? Hoping he will reply with some details?

Yah Hugh would love to see some vids. Here is a picture of a Hitch Hauler. Called the Haul Master hitch hauler 400. I weighs about 38# and can support a 400 pound bike. The KLR650 in the photo is 387 dry. So it way more than capable of hauling a Bomber or Fighter around. You can order em online for around 130 bucks, but shipping may sap you that much or more.

QMS, those are some awesome photos, what an event that must have been. Like the Stealth demo stand as well. Did you make any sales?

Rick

Hi Rix, Arcticfly, Thanks re the pics. Didn't have too much time for photos was pretty much talking like a machine gun all weekend. Some of the top racers had some world class equipment and it was a shame we couldn't have more fun over the weekend eg; spectating and socializing. Caught up with a handful of Stealth owners though and impressed quite a few people with the Stealth product. We didn't make any on the spot sales, this rarely happens anyway but the follow on a couple of weeks after is how it normally happens after the punters do their research. The event is one of heaps held around Australia but the "Finke Desert Race" just out of Alice Springs is the most well known.
Cheers QMS

I found the Bomber was too heavy for a "normal" bike rack. I used this - the smaller rail was to carry a 2nd, lighter bike. Made by Motow in Australia.rm1.jpg

Yah Q, I could totally see that, the biggest question I get is who makes the bikes. I tell them Stealth and the website info. Then I add that Endless Sphere has a big thread dedicated to Stealth Ebikes to give guidence for research. It funny because where ever I go, I get mucho questions about the Fighter, and Bomber when I had it. I know of 4 sales I have generated personally because I have been told in the form of PMs. But it happens just like you said, after the punters do their reseach, then they pull the trigger. Adverstising helps but getting out, talking with people, answering questions, this also has an effect. just like I said over two years ago, the same hold true now as I type this, I sold both my KTMs to fund the Bomber, and now the Fighter, haven't looked back at all on selling the gasser for the Stealths.

My friends OptiBike broke again. This time he thinks it's the motor. He had to pack it up and ship it back to Bolder. This is the third time he's had to do it. I'm not impressed with OptiBike.

Rix, awesome climbs there, good to have thermal protection!
Hugh, good to see that I am not the only one who takes the bike in to pieces before a long trip.
TV, you look good with those streamers, keep it up and skip the helmet, ladies like it.
QMS, always at the top with the gadgets :)

I Met up with Andrey(Former guy from Adaptto) and a couple of others, like ivanovlev http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=27911&start=175#p916863
New battery is performing well. Power delivery is awsome, top speed is over my expectation. 50mph(80km/h) feels like nothing now, 68mph(110km/h) is the new 50. It hits 62(100km/h) with ease and then it takes a couple of seconds to reach 68(110km/h). Top speed recorded on slight down hill was 72mph(116km/h)
Yeah 116km/h on a Bomber is something, scary at first but you get used to it fast!
But I would really like to have a 4 turn motor now. It will give me better acceleration/climb performance and top sped would still be around 100km/h with the new controller.

Nice pic Allex, but what the Shit? 68MPH, 72MPH down a slight hill. Thats faster than goose snot through a tin horn. I know 84 volts isn't responsible for that on its own, even at 100 DCamps. So, are you running over % with your MAX E as well?

Props to my bike shop and Stealth Australia!

Allex,
How many amps to hit those kinds of speeds, 80a, 100a?

110Amps sir, and it ramps up to 100km/h. If you lean over it will take you to 110km/h
I Dialed it up to 130A and hit 116km/h
Rix, honestly, you can hit 110km/h with only 72V you just need to Engage maximum OVS on the Max controller and dial up the DC Amps.

Jeez Alex!

I cannot wait until you get home ;) If you think a 4 turn motor does 100kph, maybe my 5405 can do 80kph. That would give me enough speed and enough torque to climb any mountain we have here in Norway :)

Hi Arcticfly i think you are right that it will climb heaps better and I to would change to a 4 turn or 5 turn if i could!... however I believe your mountains maybe like ours here in NZ and i still dont think it will like real long steep sections as the motor (even a 5 turn) wont run efficiently at low speeds on very steep inclines and will still overheat... especially with the amount of power Alex is feeding the motor... still compared to a satndard 3 turn it should be a noticeable improvement.

Hugh

I have both the 5403 and 5405, and the top speed is too low with the 5405 and original Bomber controller. 49 kph max is just not enough. I have been thinking of changing the stator of the original Stealth wheel over to the wheel with mc tire on it, but if my soon to arrive adaptto max-E can push it to 70-80 kph, that would change everything. I still think I will have to cool it down somehow, but it would definitely run cooler than the 5403. I am building a gng powered DH bike for the worst hills, if I ever get it finished that is. Still won´t climb Mount Cook, but the trails around Waimak and Hurunui would be a blast ;) (yes I lived down there for 4 years Hugh, flying helicopters in Cantebury ;) )

Hi Hugh,

the rack I'm running is an eBike special purpose rack made by GripSport (see http://gripsport.com.au/products for some of their racks, but you won't see the Stealth carrier special on that list). There are some limitations to the older rack I'm using though - it will only carry a Bomber or Fighter, not a second bike. There is too much risk for them of someone trying to overload the rack with two eBikes and taking it beyond design tolerance for load. Last thing a rack builder wants is to read a story of their rack snapping, so they limit it to one bike only.

They now have a different approach to the racking, by using the Hi Ride rack (http://gripsport.com.au/index.php/product/hi-ride-carrier-downhill-2-bike) and some custom built wheel hoops and frame hooks designed for Stealth bikes. This setup allows someone to carry one stealth bike on its own, OR one stealth + one other normal bicycle (weighing up to 15kg), OR two normal bicycles (weighing up to 25kg each), but unfortunately you’re not going to get TWO Stealths on a standard towbar at the same time.

I'm selling those racks with the custom stealth rack elements kit via http://store.quietrush.com.au/racks.html but will also shortly have my older style single bike rack available for purchase 2nd hand.

Ok, back to my stock factory charger. You may remember my complaining about it only charging my battery to 86.5v. Sometimes a little more, like 87.2v.

My friend installed a new 16g output cable on it, with a new gold plated female XLR plug. Nothing else was done. Now it charges to the full 87.6v again.

He said the stock wire was only 18 or 20 gauge, and too little.

I am looking for a rack like this in the states. Does this rack support my 3in duro razorback tires? And are you shipping to America (without the tax too).

What's the best process of removing the battery from the frame, I.e. which cables to unattach first? And then the process of re attaching the cables. I tend to create a shock everytime with the big square cable. I have to take the battery in order to reattach the seat frame.
