TV, thanx, that's just another hub motor, I would like to try out a mid drive.

I don't get the point of mid drive Allex. It's so last century. For a motorcycle I can understand if you're going to have 50 hp, but for a bicycle fuhgetaboudit. Why go from no maintenance, to high maintenance, and noisy? And shifting gears? What a waste of time, unless you're climbing Pikes Peak everyday.

But if you must, I recommend you get belt drive. At least that'll make it a little quieter, and cut down on the maintenance.

TV about hub motors….For general transpo, prob true but for more extreme riding/ racing or off road riding if there was a mid drive w equal or even close to equal power it would take a hub drive any day.
1. The ability to select gears and keep the motor at the correct speed regardless of rear wheel speed.
2. possibly even more important is sprung weight. That friggin brick of a motor on the rear wheel really screws with handling and makes tuning suspension a huge comprmise.
Also it can be downright dangerous. Accidentally hitting a deep washout or a curb at speed with the heavy motor in the rear wheel can cause broken spokes or a broken rim.
3. The front end won't push so bad because of the weight balance.
4. Overheating the motor because its not at the correct RPM range is not an issue.
5. Water crossings are not as big of a deal because the motor is higher in the frame.

Benvenuto ragazzo Italiano. One hell of a back ground you have. I love Italia, and lived in Sardegna for 6 years, would have really liked a DR350 for that Island. With your background no doubt you will enjoy the Bomber. Do us a favor and make some vids riding around Italia when you get a chance and post them. Also, when you get a couple of rides under your belt, dici come ti trovi la Bomber perfavore.

Fantastico, parli l’italiano?
What wonderful memories of the past you're making me come to mind! About 20 years ago I was on holiday in Sardinia with the DR350 and one of my first girlfriends !!!
I was born in 1973 and I live in Tuscany west coast, around the house I have a fairly large natural park where only bicycles are allowed and when I had the DR350 I went illegal through the trails sometimes.
Then about ten years ago I stopped practicing off road and got street motorbikes but in the last years the discovery of e-mountain bikes got me back the desire of the off-road but this time in stealth mode.
I will video recording for sure my Bomber trips, close to home I have plain trails in the woods and the sand on the beach side about 6km long, but if I move 20Km inward I have access to several mountain trails.

Si parlo Italiano. Anche sono stato in Altopascio in 98, vencino Milano. Manco Italia e Sardegna tantismo :( . Sono nato in 1971. Quasi abbiamo lo stesso anni. Better keep it in English. I would really appreciate you making some vids near your locale. I wish I could go back in time, with my Fighter, or my old Bomber and ride in Italy. Out of all of the countries I have been two, Italy is my favorite. I imagine Australia would be a tie for first place, but I haven't been there......yet.

Theirrr Backkk

That biker dude ain't stealing my streamer thunder. No frickin way! This is my neighborhood, he's just in it. Also visible are my new GP1 grips with black lock clamps. My bike is 100% ready for the new riding season. If it would just stop raining.

This year's going to be great. Now I well know how to ride for range, and I've gotten good at it, so range anxiety isn't much of an issue anymore. My bike is more fine turned for stealthyness too. Silent running, skinny tires, low seat height, streamers, and pedestrian bell all combine for maximum cloaking.

Hi 00Tj,
I now have a set of MT5s to fit on my Bomber. The reason I have them is I rode a new Bomber with MT5s and what a difference! Its like night and day the MT5s are that much better than my MT2s.
Hugh

So.. I bought some Magura MT7 brakes today (should be here tomorrow) and I was wondering if anyone has used them on a bomber yet? Or at all for that matter? I know the Stealth line now come with MT5's as standard and MT7's as an upgrade so maybe a few of the newer owner's can tell me how they go?
I haven't been super impressed with the MT2's, and all the MTB rider's I speak to that have tried all the best of the best say the MT7's are pretty much the best available right now?
One guy said they were better than Hope V4's, Saint's, XTR's etc.. So let's hope so!

I have MT5s and they're pretty sweet. While I haven't tried MT7s on paper they don't look worth the extra coin IMO as they don't really offer any extra braking power, just trivial features like carbon weight savings and appearance.

On an unrelated note, has anyone upgraded a newer stealth with the DC1 ? Or can someone expand on how they interface with with controller and throttle ? Do they generate a throttle signal like the the CAV3 or just intercept it ? I've had a request to fit an adaptto and while it'd make most of the DC1 features redundant it'd be a shame not to retain it's functionality.

The main difference between the mt7s and mt5s are that the pads are seperate on the 7's so the heat doesn't transfer between them, easier and more adjustments (mt7 have lever reach and bite point adjustment with on the fly, tool less adjustment knobs whereas the mt5 only has tooled lever reach) top loading easy load pads, reduced weight etc..
I have used the mt5's on a friends non electric downhill bike and they just didn't feel as responsive as the mt7's? Especially at higher speeds.. I can do 85kph and come to an abrupt stop FAST! Where on my mates bike I was doing 35kph and they only felt slightly better than my old mt2's?
Are they worth the extra? Maybe not, but I got my set for less than what a single mt7 goes for retail!
(And if anyone wants a set with a pair of 180mm sl rotors for aud$500 let me know..)

And on that unrelated note... I'm curious of that as well as I want to upgrade my dc1 modelin the near future too..

I found that the MT2 with a 226mm front disk rotor stop amazing well. I would buy the MT5 if I was only running a 203mm rotor, but with the bigger rotor, I am not experiencing the fade I used to on long hard steep descents.

wuuut, rix did you buy new springs for front?

Got em with my tax return. Blew out my RSTs and Hippie Tech Suspension is taking a look at them. Wish I had Emmett's ability to repair and revalve forks, as I really liked my RSTs.

I am running the MRPs Groove 180mm because I got a great deal on them and the money I had left over from my taxes after I paid off the new roof was just enough to get them. I like these forks, for the most part, are equal with my RST. They work the same, have the same travel, they look cooler than the RST though. These forks also have a little bit less flex which makes the handling more precise, but compression and rebound aren't any better. I really liked my RST. Up until they failed, they worked fantastic!. I think maybe they were a fluke fork because everyone else that rides them off road says they suck and the RST that came on my Bomber sucked bad compared to the RST that came on my Fighter. Make no mistakes, if my RST wouldn't have failed, and Hippie Tech could guarantee they could be repaired, I wouldn't have bought these forks. Anyway I am up and riding.

Has anyone changed the gearing on their Bomber? I ride the streets in ninth gear but at higher speeds pedal assistance is beyond useable. I would love to have the existing top gear equivalent to say seventh with two more up my sleeve. Any thoughts.

The standard set up is 22 to 16.

This one would be the one if you want to pedal up to 80km/h

Allex is right, and IMO the sound is mabe 20db or more silent then with a "white" freewheel.

Cheers Allex,

Do you have a link to where you purchased it.

Please let us know what you find. I'm after a new 14T single speed freewheel for my H40XX hub. I don't want to spend USD80 + 20 post for a sealed unit. I'm happy to flush clean and re-oil a cheaper part.

Looks like a need one with a 35mm ID thread. But I see some with 34mm threads too. Like this 16T part http://r.ebay.com/x5Da9e

Hi folks,
Regarding the debate about the MT brakes. I find them a good brake with great feel with the exception of the excessive freeplay.
I relegated the MT2s that came on my Bomber to my daughters 24" dirt jumper and she is happy with them.
I went with Hope V4s and standard pads grabbing 220mm discs front and back. Also I micro switched the regen brake to the rear brake lever and this significantly improves the rear braking. I have it set up with a spring to switch it on late in the brake lever stroke rather than as soon as you touch the brake. Incidentally I found these large discs can be hard to get at a reasonable price.
I have MT8s on my DH bike that I picked up for a good price as a runout. I was unhappy with what I found to be the excess freeplay and the bleed tricks seem to only fix this short term. As Emmet suggests a small spacer under the actuating rod will fix this. I turned up 5mm longer actuating rods from m6 cap screws and now have normal freeplay lever pull.
Cheers,
Clinton

stealth bomber in Afghanistan desert
Was I the only one waiting for an explosion ? :( haha
What are you doing there with your bomber ? I know there was talks of stealth military contracts a while back but I'm not sure if anything came of it.
Post a first person (chest cam) vid of you shooting while riding if you really want to impress us :p

In the mean time here's the complete opposite of scenery for y'all
Reposted from my build thread - Part 2 of Yosemite ebike adventures with Hyena and Rix
Beauty and the beast
(that's Yosemite and Rix's bomber, just incase there was any abiguity  )
Beautify scenery of course but also more fast paced action in this one
As usual, watch in full screen 1080p for maximum clarity

Here is a repost of one of the vids Hyena made back in may of 2013 when we met in Yosemite. I felt it was appropriate as the weather is starting to get better in the Northern Hemisphere and summer is around the corner. YAH!

Hey guys. My rubber is almost worn out. Just want to know what tire is good for this 120lbs machine. I am not looking to spend too much. Is it ok to use a single ply wall tire?

http://www.feltbicycles.com/USA/2015/Parts/Cruiser/Tires-Tubes/Berm-Master-Tire.aspx

Here is a link to the cheapest best for the money always available tire you can get in 24" wheel size. I like these tires and run them when I cant get a 3x24 Duro Razorback. They work good everywhere, except loose dry terrain, in the soft terra firma, they don't inspire as much confidence as the Razorbacks.

Not a fan of the Berm Master here. 2 of my 3 ever stacks on my Fighter were caused by slip-outs on Berm Masters.

For mixed riding I prefer the DMR Moto RT's if you don't mind the smaller tire size.

I would love the same or similar tire in 3" wide, but haven't found one yet.

Cheers
