managed to hit 88kph on my HS4080 now....insanely fast!

I would suggest upgrading those 14awg wires outside the axle. Through the axle, yeah you need to size down, but for the run from the axle to the controller, the bigger the better for those wires.
88km/h is crazy. I like my bike's low speed accel power. The top speed is ample for my usage on a mix of dirt any rocky trails.

My new 14 AWG wires don't get warm at all. The H4040 just doesn't pull enough phase current to make it an issue. And pumping it at 66 to 74V I get ample top speed. Motor heat is no issue either. With oil cooling the stator temp never gets extreme (so I removed the temp sensor to simplify my wiring) and with a Hubsink the entire hub never gets too hot to touch with bare fingers. This is incredible considering I could never do that before Hubsinks and before oil cooling I could only ride the bike for about 20 minutes.

A very interesting thing is that my TC3065 motor's phase wires are fat 11 AWG and the same brand of wire, but they get quite warm (to touch) riding the same way with the same controller and battery. Same 100ml of castor oil in the TC too. The TC3065 has top speed 150% of the H4040, but the H4040 has at least 200% of the TC's power at low speed. No comparison for lower speed grunt. The TC3065 physically looks prettier and has less rolling EMF drag, but the H4040 is a real gem for my needs.

But I do need one of your axle clamps to be sure I wont spin my axle. Even though with the glued alum stealth clamp and no regen it should be ok. Should!

I don't miss regen at all. Good in theory but not in practise. Completely ignoring the axle nut loosening issue ... I used to use regen and found that I could gen maybe 50 wh, but that wasn't worth much with a battery holding 1400 wh and worse is that regen braking is so on/off harsh that it could easily put me in the hospital. Most downhills I ride involve sketchy loose rocks.

Yeah 88kph is crazy, but today on a ride I actually managed to hit 90kph! Mind you, that was down a hill. But that's with my Adaptto and no field weakening....theoretically I could easily go over 100kph, but I'm not sure I'm that crazy.

What you say about your phase amps makes sense and is likely the reason you don't see the heat in the phase wires. It should be noted though, if you increased the phase amps on your TC motor it would pull just as hard as the HS4040, but your controller would get hotter, and struggle more.

Cheers

Hey guys waned to post about a fix I had for stripped axle threads. Contacted Stealth to try and get a new axle or a recommendation for how to service the bike. Stealth instructed I contact the local authorized Stealth dealer (Bike Craze, Anaheim CA). Upon calling them I got nothing, they gave me phone numbers for a "technician" who never seemed to answer. So..

I decided to fix it myself. I fired up the TIG welder and proceeded to lay new beads of metal into all the stripped out threads being careful to control my heating (especially on the harness side).

That came out good. I have ordered axles from Kenny at Crystalyte before. They cost 30 bucks plus 40 bucks to ship to the US. On another note, here is a story about a burglar who got caught. He tried to steal a Bomber. Kind of funny. http://abc7news.com/news/san-rafael-store-employees-catche-burglar/1723202/

Great stuff st35326!
The other way to tackle this is to downsize the threads. I did that on my 1/2" HS4080 axle taking it down to M12 and so far it's been fine.

The other part to this is to get some of my replacement torque blocks to prevent it happening again. :)

Yeah Im down for torque block as soon as the lazy SOB making them, starts shipping.

Sure looks like one of these would fit....add the extension and fatty thingie if needed.

Tom

I ride with mud huggers front end rear zip tie to the swing arm keeps everything clean and dry except my back. But I have 26 inch version.. I can use the extension.

I took it apart and put one of those lights in it. I'm using Moose racing dirt bike handle bars too.

The silver box on top is a Samsung bluetooth speaker. It's attached with industrial velcro and rare earth magnets.

Do you use the speaker to output motorcycle noises? Hahaha.

This is not being player through that speaker. But I have thought about it. Also the Jetson's space car noise would be sweet.

Had my first ride on the Stealth Fighter..... on a good techinical single track.... and WOW...... this is my fav bike for techincal single track.
The fork angle really allow me to manuever and dig in corners.... it feels really natual to me.
The LW, and range seemed better than the bomber on same trails.

I didn't know you had a Fighter in your stable. got any pics or vids?

RIX - from today's RIDE

I bought this 1 yr ago for my wife.... but she broker her ankle... and has not really taken to riding even after healing up.

So what is a man to do??? RIDE IT!

I was about to list it for sale.... but after this ride in the BUSH... it is fantastic. Perhaps better than the bomber for the technical stuff.
I was not really impressed with the fighter for the street and street bashing.... only 2 spds is limiting.... and the non-plush suspension didn't really shine on the street.... BUT in the woods the Light Wgt, the throttle resp, the fork angle.... oh boy what a pkg... kind of like a BMX bike with a motor.

Oh that's right, I totally forgot you did get a Fighter for your wife. I guess since its been a while, I forgot you did that. Nice pic, glad you are getting some use out of both of them.

What front 24" MTB tyre is that? Looks like it might be good for hard dirt and much longer lasting than a Razorback.

A side stand which is mounted as unsprung weight doesn't seem right for trail riding. But I assume other options are very limited.

Rear yes. Front I don't think so. Knobs look to have a higher land/sea ratio. But perhaps that's an illusion because of the wear.
If your talking about Mr Toads Bomber:
16388066_1465083806837458_2868270123628901876_n.jpg

That's a Berm Master on the front.
IMO they are not a good tire. Although it looks like it would hook up good, because the nobs are evenly spaced the tire skips as it rolls in between each nob. My Fighter came with a set when it was new. I used them for about a couple of thousand km before ditching them. I attribute a couple of minor crashes to them. They are particularly bad on wet pavement/concrete.

Cheers

The top arrow points to the brand "Duro" and the bottom points to the name of the tire "Razorback" even though you can't actually read it, the markings and the respective locations are consistent with this tire.
