:: BUMP :: :p

The ol' worklog was starting to slip down the page a lil thought i
might renew some interest with a few happy snaps of the freshly painted frame ;)

I have gone with Matt Black acrylic paint...hoping it might renew Methods 8) interest in the project
and get me a few Gangsta 8) points hehee :p

The frame has been rubbed down with ~600 grit paper...blasted
with 2 costs of etch primer then a layer of primer filler before a sand with 800 grit wet and dry
and 4 coats of Matt Black paint. Have let it dry in the sun for a few days and have just begun
assembling today :) Hopefully should withstand a few knocks, at least will 'neatin' the trike up
a lil, i haven't gone to great measures with the prep work suffice to say it looks pretty tidy :)

Shall report back again shortly folkz...

Love the mat black.
Always have. . . Something about it just looks proper.

Hey!
I recognize that shock you have on the back. Same one they put on Walfart bikes :?
That looks like the black 850lb/in spring too and the cylinder that clanks back and forth when you remove the spring :p
There is a pink version of that spring that is 550lb/in. Keep an eye out for it on the side of the road.
Make a hell of a difference.

Tonight I had a sudden realization. . .
My new project (The Ghetto Booster) will be driving the cranks with 10kw of power
With a 550lb/in spring in the back that is going to dump my ass every time I hit the gas :(

So I checked out Craigs List and POW SON!
Nice Fox Vanilla R ProPedal with adjustable rebound and an 800lb/in 2.30" spring just sitting there.
Wana know how much?
$50! (that is like $6k in AUD FYI.... lol)

This thing is great!

Good to see the trike is coming along.
I am currently collecting bikes for my trike
Mine will be backwards though and real close to the ground.

Gladz to see you took the time to checkz in again Patrick ;) I will say it only once though... if you
build a reverse trike you are no longer Gangsta 8) and all respect will be lost :p :p :p

p.s

Unless it tilts and can do wheelstands with a cripled 90kilo man on it...:p

p.s.s you know i had to say it 'other' doc...'tadpoles' just AIN'T Gangsta 8) EVEN with
120volts of lipos and a CrAzY Noth American at the 'wheel' :p ... be hella fuckin fun to watch though WoooHoooo!!!11

You got that right, Aussie! Most of us pseudosophistocats really like "the look" of funny trikes. And they corner on 2 wheels with practice  Don't try that at homewith a "conventional" three wheeler! Wheres the Candyapple Red or better yet that new "colorshift" stuff? By the way, someday I may get inspired by your expert craftsmanship to actually fix my "beaverchewed" alloy. Your time and effort really paid off! I just don't have the patience (or skill?) to do that quality level. If it runs, good enuff for me! My electric model gliders used to look like hell, too. They flew great, but also looked like the beavers built them!
otherDoc

HAHA yeah i like the reverse trikes myself too Doc but seeing i have a delta config i simply must
give those with reverse trikes grief it would be un-Australian of me if i didnt LoL...speaking of
reverse trikes though here's a couple i like YES one is ICE but HARLEY DAVISON ICE SO! itz still hella cool...

Even Barack Obama would look Gangsta 8) on that ^^^^ LOL

Methods 8)
I forgot to reply to your spring comment, the spring on the trike is one
of the el-cheapo numbers (bought for ~7 bucks from ChoppersUS) I have found many
since purchasing this one however you may see a few bikes in the background of my pictrues
they were sourced today YES its that time of the year in my area CURBSIDE collection..scored 4 bikes 2
guitars (one a pristine condition Yamaha) and carpet for my garage all within walking distance of my house hahaha...
ahhh what these rich baaaastards up here throw out amazes me,
two of the mountain bikes are ride able NOTHING wrong with them aside they could
prolly do with a lil oil on the chain and more pressure in the tires :-| ANYWAY...one of the
mountain bikes has a 650lb spring on it i will try as the one i use now is a 750lb either way though Methods 8)
the suspension on my trike doesn't move alot to begin with like an inch max, its really just to take the hard 'thud'
out of bumps and does so well i must admit bouncing over a slanted curb is painless :)

Look forward to seeing your reverse low slung trike though Methods 8) Im suuure it won't be your
'standard' run of the mill trike to say the least LoL...I hope to get working on a tilting delta trike in coming
months myself, RC motor/ICE hybrid...see how things go anywayz...

Painted a few more bitz and bolted them on, few pics of the slow progress...

latest_trike_frame_series.jpg

Motor came up a treat, i didnt disassemble it simple taped the ends up light sand etch primer/matt black
The seat base mount thing-a-ma-jig has been drilled extensively for both looks and to lighten, i am
very happy with the way its coming together so far I have only the springer forks to attend to now
OH i have also switched out the 4 rear bearings for high quality units i purchased local
niiiiiice and smooooth.

Birthday Fridee so doubtful will be running till at least mid next week hahaa have to make the BIG FOUR '0' BIG :p
I'm allowing several days for recovery if i get a break in the weather ill get out in the workshop but was 37 yesterday
lookin like more for tomorrow :: sigh :: over summer now ...

Back soon folks

As usual, AJ, simply fantastic work! I still think color shift paint!
I saw one of those tadpole motorcycles at our yacht club (yeah, I know I don't own a boat! Just don't let them know!) and it said BMR or BRM or something like those initials. Who makes that thing? It looks like a F1 car with a wheel missing, except you ride ON the car, not IN the car. By the way, happy upside down birthday, AJ!

Cheerz Doc ;) Colour shift paint now your talking BIG bucks Doc haha ...boat club hey LOL hob nobbin' it with the high brows sippin' the Chardonnay as you bullshit to one another how big your boats are...what happens when they want to check your sleek vessel out Doc, will you just takez them to your e-bike HAHAA :p Could it have been BRP possibly? BRP Can-Am Spyder? should of snapped a pic Doc? (i am only presuming here you have a camera on your phone?) there's one of these trikes down the road from me at local vintage MotorCycle wreckers (tiz the shop owners daily rider) VERY nice bike...er.. uhm what i meant to say was it would look 100% better with one wheel at the front and two at the back :p Thx again Doc ;)

Hey Kim,

Congrats on hitting 40, I imagine there is alot of money changing hands on that bet...

I agree the drilled look makes for nice accents on the bike over-all, especially on the seat-pan.

HAHAHAHA Thankz Frank...better not collect just yet though still a day and a bit to go, is a Friday the 13th too, i was actually born on a Friday the 13th too wouldnt think it though i been so lucky ... :p

I like the look the holes make too Frank, gives it more of a 'racy look' i think, that bloody seat pan shiiiiit, did it take me some time to drill that out though, borrowed mates big hand drill nearly snapped my wrist twice when it grabbed, took 4 stubbies worth to get through it over the weekend drill a hole have a few drinks talk a bit more, drill another hole another sip, sharpen drill bit...you get the picture hahaha...Was worth it though. It has also
lightened it up substantially without comprising the strength, was more for the looks though hahaa...cheers again bud :)

Back off to bed 2.59am here in the land down under :)

My voice is like like a..................well, never mind! Most members don't have boats. Were all just snob wannnabeees!!! All in good fun, except for the occasional headache Saturday AM. I'm sure a clean living guy like you wouldn't know about that

I feel I have made some more 'picture worthy' progress the last few days.

Deciding AGAINST a 'Scotchbright' finish for the forks (unfortunately AFTER 2 hours of sanding grrr)
IMO the forks were simply too far gone in terms of deep scratches and wouldn't have 'made the grade' SO..
'Rat black' erm..thats 'Gangsta 8) Black' for the forks also hehehe

...as always few pics of the progress...

As with the rest of the frame, it has been sanded, hit with two coats of etch primer one of primer filler
and 4 coats of Acrylic Matt Black...Hence forth to be known as "Gangsta Black" hahaha

Few 'mods/additions/upgrades' to the springers, those with a VERY keen eye may have already noticed?
there has been an addition to the top plate. Previously i had the two aluminum 'disks' under
the bottom fork clamp only, this was NOT attached to the top plate, i have now cut two steel disks and
welded them too the top plate allowing the forks too be tensioned down with the clamp bolt, previously
there was ALOT of movement NOW it is rock solid no movement/flex AT ALL.

Also more noticeable, the two 'small tubes' on the springer tube, these are tooo run the two
front brake cables through instead of using cable ties :)

Not alot left too do at this stage...brakes calipers to be bolted back on and connected, batteries
box to be knocked up along with rear tray...more soon folks :)

KiM

Apprentice Gangsta 8)

BWAHAHAHA thats freakin AWSOME !!!111oneoneone

The tray i am to be building in the coming days will fit a carton of beer on it, after seeing that though i shall have to re-think the size and make sure a fair size esky will fit, be FANTASTIC to take to out door events here, like Drags, speedway, motorcross, road racing etc...can scoot about the out field to the best vantage points and always be well supplied with BEER...I think a trailer with a small gas burner bar-b-q trailing behind might also be on the cards hehehe...hrmz...i do have trailer (same as this one) my bro picked up off the side of the raod, i was going to mod this to tow behind when i venture out scouting during council kerbside but a bar-b-q mounted on it might be the shot LoL :p

Cheerz for Hal ;)

batteries though, i found some new 12v 18ah SLAs for $65 bucks a pop so grabbed me 4 of them
shall do me for this ride...for now. My future planned tilting trike with RC motor i shall be brave
and go with some lipos...

More veeeery soon ;)

p.s ooooh i just read THE BEST news i have come across in awhile 'Methods' sig in particularl--> "The 100V 5305 is dead, moving on to non-hub gangsterness" WOOOHOOOOO look out Luke hes gunnin' for you hehehe :p SIK him Methods SIIIK HIIIIM!!!111oneoneone

I tried to steer you away from that evil honey before but if you do end up going that route make sure we talk so that I can hook you up with two of my secret weapons.
I have a lipo monitor circuit that only costs $15 and it will alert you if any one of your cells drops below 3.0V, goes over 4.22V, or there is a delta between any two cells that is large.
Total life saver. Beeps like hell when you are screwing up!

Looking very tidy mate 8)
Have you thought about replacing the second (top) nut on your fork springs with a dome nut ? Might look a bit neater ?

HAHA yeah i have buddy i just havent been able to get to local place here Coventry Fasteners to grab some dome nuts, local hardware doesn't stock them unfortunately. It does stand out like dogs nuts don't it im surprised someone else hasn't picked up on it before now hehee ... ;)

Kim,

Just read through the last few posts and caught your side note that there were new images on the previous page... Good Job I did, as the posts build fast on this thread...

The frontend looks excellent!!!

The black on the forks compliments the rest of the trike... .

Thanks mate, i think it came up well if i did it over however i would take more care in the prep of the tubing prior to welding up fab/process and have them chromed, as 'good' as it does seem to look now it would REALLY pop if they were chromed...im still very happy with the result though.. :)

FrankG said:
My thought on the BBQ/Beer Keg additions would be to ditch the trailer idea, and reframe the rear end as a dual axel rig... Essentially mirroring the existing rear-end, 2 sprung axels, 2 motors, 4 wheels and acres of space for haulage...

You may even have room for a bed roll to sleep off some of the adventures that typically punctuate your week...

HAHAHA aaaah mate your an Aussie and you don't know it LoL...would be SOOOO doable to wouldnt it but oooh so impractical for my needs..still wouldnt discount it happening at some point in time just for the sheer hell of it :)

FrankG said:
As to your next build, you're alluding to a tilting trike type ride... Not sure if you've already started gathering parts yet, but if not and the idea is open for discussion... I'd say forget the RC motor drive train and go straight to an Etek/Mars/Agni/Lemco/Generic Pancake motor...

Just the thought of 15 to 22HP peak power available on demand sets my pulse racing...

As i see it there isnt a reeeally 'nice' lookin tilting delta eclectic 'bicycle' trike with ridiculous HP someone has to
have a crack at building one, i have a welder/angel grinder/nothing else to waste $$$ on thought i would have a crack ;-P...As to the motor choice... i would LOVE the Etek ........ route the design i have in mind though would work better with a couple of rc motors on the two rears...as i will have that...whole tilting 'thang' happening ...However its done i have the goal to make it wheelie capable if nothing else LoL Has to be fast and fun for the short periods it can run, be purely a 'fun' machine and not for 'day to day' use :) ( if anyone feels the urge to entertain me with suggesting using two hub motors on each rear wheel refrain and we can all remain "friends" )

FrankG said:
I'm just not in a position to blow $1,000 to $2,000 of gear-up on a stupid error or lack of knowledge on it's proper usage...

Yeah i could see myself doing it SO easy Frank....for now i shall leave it to others ;)

FrankG said:
Regardless, Top Notch work my friend!

Thanks mate appreciate you taking the time to check out the work ... :)

Cheers all be back with update on electrics shortly...

I have to admit AJ, that the black against silver really looks good. Mean, not hokey! Long may U rum (er...run)!
otherDoc

Heeey there's ma favorite back to front trike ridin' Doc :)

I was thinking the same yesterday re: the silver on the matt black Doc...I had
just finished fitting up the stainless steel braided brake lines, i rolled back and sat there
lookinz at it for a good 5 minutes, i am more than pleased with how the cables
contrast against the duco, also extremely happy with how the 'tube guides' i welded
onto the frame have turned out, no more 'cheapo-lookin' cable ties for this "Rat-Trike"

Custom_e-trike_cable_installed_pics_1.jpg

Custom_e-trike_cable_installed_pics_2.jpg

I shall be finishing work on the battery box today, with a little luck, im waiting for
a mate to come over we are heading out for some more aluminum to complete the box...
I stayed in last night had a "quiet one" I know i know VERY un-like me Doc LoL..
he tore about the town chasing everything in with a skirt and heart beat...(heart beat
is optional LoL
) So i'm not suuuure when he will surface, luckily Bunnings is open
7am-7pm hahaa...(mega warehouse hardware store)

From my trip to the Nostalgic Drag meet few weeks back (all street rods and pre-1981 cars)
I snapped ALOT of pics, one in particular was a 1930ish Rat Rod, on th side door it had a '[picture'
i shall be using on the front/side panels of the rear tray...

i have changed the lettering from 'Rat Rod" too-->

Rat_E-TrikeJPG.jpg

Should be a neat 'finishing touch' to the build i think...OH and
must not forget the "warning" sticker for the side of the battery box-->

Yes i nabbed it from one of the threads here and i don't apologize for it
ITS MINE NOW ALLLL MIIIIINE!!111oneoneone hehehehe

Thanks Luke appreciate that mate :) Has been challenging draaaawn out
ever changing design albeit a fun project never the less ;)

This one shall be my 'ute' so to speak...think you Northerners call them 'pick up
trucks'?
Seeing this is my only form of transport (i don't drive anymore...
done my license 7 times for reckless
)lose it again for anything 'serious' highly likely
i will be sharing a cell with a big guy called bubba who like long haired blonds :-S

SO...hop a tray on the back of this and it will be of HUGE help in future projects
ducking to local hardware/machine shop/metal merchant etc etc rather than
having to rely on mates and/or taxis(which are usually an hour at least wait time where i live)
so reliability over speed is the essential thing for this build, thats not to say it wont get a good
flogging again to see how she goes with all the gears hooked up, i think it will give high 7
seconds a nudge for the 100m would drop to high 6's with lipos i think ;) As is has my mates
Toyota Hilux 3litre turbo diesel beat till he hits 3rd gear and the turbo kicks in and he screeeeeams
past hahaaha

The next build will be the 'fun machine' wheelie capable is mandatory TOP
speed not sooooo much (60km/hr will do) but getting to top speed quickly is, so will be needing
BUCKETS of torque on a light frame OH reminds me the fellas weighed my trike
few nights ago tiz 45kilo's(99lb)as seen in above pics ie. everything
BUT batteries, i was SHOCKED expected 20-30 kilo heavier ...

Anyhoot...cheers again for the kind words Luke, im off to organize
this battery box, been a slight change of plans since the trip to the hardware,
i picked up a steel tool box, requires slight shortening other than that tiz
peeeerfect for the SLAs and has hinged lid with lock for $AU16 the black
"Gangsta Black" paint to paint it was $AU18 haha..

More soon chaps...

Sorry i don't reeeeally see the similarity...Schwinn Stingray with a hub motor :: ack:: whacked on it doesn't exactly look alot like my custom built non hub motored trike does it? i hope not anywayz or i have spent a shit load of time, money & effort building something i could have bought at a bike shop and whacked a trike conversion kit on LoL..Theres a few fellas on ES with very similar rides as yours though make for good electric converts due to their stretched out style frames. LiL on the small side for me though im afraid, much prefer my custom frame...no offense intended :)
