Unlike many of you, I'm trying to modify a E300 Razor for a "less exciting" experience. I'm trying to optimize for 10 mph or so (and I need to go 5mph frequently), with range and light weight a priority. So the SLA batteries are gone, and I'm up and running on 6s Lipos which is working fine. 80-tooth gear on the back wheel as well, topping out around 11 mph at 7A/150W.

Now I'd like to get rid of that 10 lb brushed motor to further reduce weight and improve efficiency. I have seen a number of 63mm brushless conversions here but that seems like overkill for my needs. Will a smaller RC motor have the torque I need, though? I'm ok with kick starting it, but I still need some acceleration.

Any ideas? Smaller motor like HK 5065-236kv? What sort of ESC won't burn up in an application like this?

Many thanks, great forum you guys have here!

Seems like a nice build. I've always wanted to see a conversion for one of those electric razors. Post some pictures when you get a chance.

The build should be fairly simple since you aren't starting from scratch. You can go 6S probably the most easiest. Buy EZ-Run Pro 150A and/or HobbyKing 150A ESC and a 6374 Turnigy SK3 motor (hobbyking).

You could go 50mm and it will probably do fine but 63mm is capable of much more which you won't be using so it's harder to destroy a 6374 motor compared to a 50mm. If you aren't climbing hills and really don't plan on going faster than 10mph then you would be fine with a 50mm. It will still be fairly light compared to your existing weight.'

Both ESCs above are pretty good. EZ Run Pro 150A is higher quality and would probably last longer. I'd like to see an 8S/10S 6374 with this razor. Would be pretty quick/nice. You might even be able to fit a 80mm motor LOL. Too bad no disc brakes.

10#? did u weigh it? i think mine weigh 4.5#, weighed it years ago so i could be wrong.
i used a 2 speed controller to cut the amps, speed, plus the 80T, and I built a stop into the throttle, adjusts with a thumbscrew to limit speed.
i think the motor is fine, as it only used 0.9AH riding around/talking at a car show for 90 minutes, 36v makita pack.
