Ebikes on BLM land

The BLM is currently asking for input as to whether or not to allow electric bicycles in areas where bicycles are already allowed on lands they manage. Here is the link:

Please take a minute and give your input when you can. Especially if you have experience with 750W pedal assist bikes. Judging by the comments already on the page, some people have really unrealistic ideas about how fast they go on trails and their impact on the environment.

It seems the site is down at the moment for scheduled maintenance. I will check it again later to make sure that my link still works.

Thanks for posting this. I'm not a US resident, so not sure if I should be responding to this or not, but it certainly has made for interesting reading!

Considering what BLM has allowed on many of its lands in the American West/Intermountain West as far as poorly-regulated cattle and sheep grazing (= welfare ranchers like Cliven Bundy), it has little credibility as any kind of land steward in the first place...eBikes or otherwise. If you've ever biked, hiked, etc. in these areas and seen the devastation caused by poorly or unregulated subsidized ranching on "our" public lands (https://www.amazon.com/Welfare-Ranching-Subsidized-Destruction-American/dp/1559639423), quibbling about ebike speed and tread marks is ridiculous.

But it's still worth taking a few minutes and participating in these public comment opportunities if for no other reason then to let these land managers know that there are more "stakeholders" than just local public lands ranchers, etc. at the table.

it just sounds like they don't want a stealth bomber or sur-ron chewing up bicycle trails like a dirt bike would,so that kind of makes sense but theres a lot of nice 2500 watt mid drive down hill bikes that are still bicycles. what the heck is 750 watts? its a sticker, like 250 watts is a sticker.

its funny that a member named Dirt Torpedo is worried about the speed of an ebike and its impact on the environment. I get what youre saying but its funny :D
