Some have attempted (myself included) to use the NC and common terminal of a SPDT reed switch so that when the brake lever is fully retracted, the magnet holds the switch open. I do not recommend this approach. Reed switches can fail either by vibration or shock. In my case, simply allowing the lever to slam against the hand brake body was enough to cause shock to the reed switch causing it to malfunction. I've attempted three repairs, thinking the switches were defective. All malfunctioned in exactly the same way.

Interesting little device. Not too familiar with the Arduino stuff. I've decided to use sub-miniature micro switches.
