would appreciate all feedbackabout ecospeed mid drive system.am thinking seriously about buying catrike trail and have it equipped with ecospeed .what are the performance stats at 48volts.thinking of buying from utahtrikes.com? any thoughts welcome

Their BB "mountain-drive" (similar to Cyclone/Elation) has adaptation brackets to use the 600w BMC V2-S, and also the V2-T. They also have a 1,000w motor option that carries their label that I can't identify. You have the option to buy the kit without the motor or batteries for $920-$1,020 (for single chain ring or triple)

Their mid-drive kit (like a Stoke-Monkey) has the same motor options, or can be purchased with no motor or battery for $945

Matt, you are NOT overpriced. If you ever assemble plug-and-play kits for sale, they will be the Porsche's of the E-bike world. I believe the higher RPM's with gear-down provide such a more efficient system, a builder can get the same range from a smaller battery. The light-weight and compact size are an up-scale feature, and the look is beautiful.

I believe Cyclone and Elation do as well as they do, because of the low-watt limit in Australia. Its nice that ecospeed provides US customers with stateside customer service, but at these prices...

You might want to consider a Catrike from Matt (recumpence) ... I prefer a rear wheel drive as opposed to a Mid drive

Matt .... any pictures of the Catrike ?

Personally I would prefer a long, thin inrunner design mounted in a single cantilevered rear arm with shaft drive to the rear wheel = ) but that isn't likely to happen anytime soon so with regards to Matts eDrive value as opposed to ecospeed (at the prices quoted above) - Agreed - I'll take 5 when they are plug and play - please.

For now, just a single eDrive (deciding if I want to go more reduction for a 5 or 8 spd internal rear or less reduction to a large drive 3spd SA) will have to suffice.

A question though - is the ecodrive the system which has a, how do I say this ... a saw blade for a sprocket? I saw this somewhere it looked interesting, I assume the tapered teeth of this design are designed to eliminate driving the motor when pedaling without a freewheel at the motor but I assume a crank mounted freewheel is still required or the pedals would always turn with the motor still.

I did not post on this thread to hyjack it, or to make a sale. But, I do not mind sharing a bit...........

Yes, I have a Catrike 700 that I am installing a drive unit on. I already have a disc ready rear wheel installed for use with the left side chain (on the disc brake flange). I also designed rear frame braces to reduce the rear triangle flex associated with Catrike frames. I have drive units that pretty much bolt right on (clamp around the frame) rather than require drilling of the frame as the Ecospeed does (the Ecospeed requires drilling holes in the frame and using water bottle bosses to mount the drive).

Anyway, I have not installed my drive on my Catrike yet, so I have no pictures to show. I also am not 100% sure there will be no mechanical interfereances. Once I get mine mounted, I will start a thread about it.

I just have sooooo many projects going on just now. Wait till you see what I have rolling out of the shop come springtime!

As I mentioned, I like the Ecospeed drives. They are well thought out and built. I just find the price to be staggering for the wattage they put out. That being said, they fill a niche and I am glad someone is building quality bike drives. The problem with ordering from me is the wait time. I need to go full time with this so orders don't have to wait untill I have time before they are filled. :)

If you go with an Ecospeed, you will not be sorry. They just don't have the huge accelleration that RC drives do (for the money). :)

does anyone know top speed and range of ecospeed with a 48volt 10amp ping battery.am going to buy a catrike trail and set-up with a electric assist system.am leaning toward 9 cont from ebikes.ca they have a 2805 that should go 30mph for 450 and a ping 48v for 410 from mr ping.have looked at bionx also.would appreciate all opinions

Ordered two of these mid-drives. They utilize a patented "freewheeling" crankset that slips(internally) and after sending it back it is is wiggly and slips worse. To better define slipping; The freewheeling crankset allows the rider to run the electric motor without pedaling. There is an internal clicking just like on some rear wheel free wheels. Only these pieces of crap spin both way's not good.
