Electric Lean Trike from Onya Cycles

Saw that today. Too weird... the cheapest one without batteries is $1000-$1500? uhhh...

eTrikebikes / uncle ron = FTW :)

John from CR needs to examine the tilt mechanism as he is building a tilting trike. The design looks quite clever and it seems to do what they say it will. Make 'em in Tiawan or China for a grand! When gas prices rise they will sell a million of them.

The crocs are SO WRONG.

Nice math, bad style, I still like the Nihola better.

I want a front-wheel-drive (two hubmotors) trike that leans if >I< lean it - not on it's own.

When I ride my "regular" bike, >I< get to decide how much it leans. That's hard to not think about.

NorthernMike:

That trike can be purchase in Toronto at Curbside for $3,500

If we should have other products for comparison to Onya Lean Trike, I would like to point out Feetz from Netherland. This trike not only lean, but also foldable.Feetz-tricycle-stroller.jpghttp://www.feetz.nl/

Not true. The angle from vertical of the CG of a bike in a curve is determined only by the speed and the radius of the curve. Any other angle requires a speed change or a steering input to change the radius of the curve or you will absolutely high side or low side.

... so if I decide to change the speed, or make a steering input - the lean angle will change?

I mean - I thought that the lean angle of the Onya trike is determined ONLY by steering input, and not by speed - do I have that right?

So going around radius X at 15mph you'll be leaning at the same angle as you would at 2mph?

Northernmike,
If that's the way it leans then it must be less than ideal, but having that 3rd point of contact with the road will help. It definitely warrants a test ride first, because not leaning at the correct angle in a curve may feel weird. Cars don't lean at all so maybe it works. It's gotta be better than a non-leaning trike, though I worry about high speed. I'm with you though and would prefer a leaner that leans like a bike.

I met the guy from http://www.emotors.biz this saturday at the SF bike expo.
he didn't have that trike there (but he had a steintrike)
a bit too far for me (they are in Sebastapol)
