"Welp, after we published the story that Energica could be possibly closing its doors, we got the official word. It's over for the electric motorcycle company.

Pour one out for one of the OGs in the electric motorcycle sector.

In a press release given to RideApart early this morning, Energica stated that while its board of directors had attempted to find new cash infusions and investments, as well as ways to monetize the company better, the only route forward would be through declaring bankruptcy. More than that, to pay off the company's creditors and debt obligations, the board decided to fully liquidate all of its assets rather than going the Cake route of declaring bankruptcy and then finding a new owner.

"Energica Motor Company SpA, a manufacturer of high-performance electric motorcycles 75% controlled by the American fund Ideanomics Inc., announces that its Board of Directors meeting held on 14 October 2024 at 3:00 p.m. resolved to enter into a bankruptcy judicial liquidation pursuant to art. 121 et seq. of the insolvency law," states the release."

75% controlled by an outside fund.. they were toast a while ago..

What about Sonders and the Metacycle? They screwed a lot of people, taking money for a product that never arrived. And Livewire is on the ropes too.
I hope Energica's liqudation works out better for the buyers of their products.

I bought a Ryvid motorbike this summer, and worried quite a bit until it finally arrived. It's here and works great so far.
An emotorcycle is much more of a transcedental experience than riding a gasser. Prices are higher for an emoto, and most bikers are addicted to the burning of gasoline.

Stop making "high performance" machines and start making useful products to get the majority out of ICEs and help society become local.

Wonder where the Sonders inventory is, maybe still sitting in China but I remember when they went down there was still over 1000 complete bikes in the warehouse apparently. Would think someone would have bought it up and be reselling them.

Seems the case that everyone bought a bike during covid, bike companies went crazy, then everyone got tired of the new toy once the government allowed the peasants intermingle again, and now nobody wants one.

Yet another artifact of the zero interest rate phenomenon!

I'd love to snag up one of those on the cheap in a few years

The CNQSmotor website reposted the old electrek article regarding sondors:

But what's interesting is that at the bottom of the page, they link to a page on their own site where they supposedly sell the hub motor from the metacycle. Legit?
