Electronic front brakes

I recently bought this Wawscote scooter as my first standup to try out. It has a rear motor and rear drum brakes but the front has "electronic brakes". With the front wheel off the ground, if I spin it (by hand), I do notice the wheel stops faster with power on vs power off.

How does this electronic brake work? I see a thick wire cable going into the front wheel which must be for the electronic brake. The yellow lens is just a reflector, not a LED light strip and there is nothing else that needs power in the front wheel.

I have yet to test its stopping distance from its 18 mph top speed. I'd gather it's not going to be good.

That cable looks to be for the front motor wires. You can see the writing on the side says 3x 1.2mm (which will be the three phase cables) + 6x ... (For the hall and temp sensors)

If it has ebraking, it will just be using regen

There is no motor in the front! Just one in the rear.

Have you removed the front wheel to confirm that? Could the manufacturer be using a hub motor in front as a brake alone? That is close to what it would take to have an effective electric brake.
 
As Apartunis mentioned, It's possible that it's just a tiny motor only used for braking purposes. I'm not sure whether that's a common thing, but that wire is definitely for an electric motor

What model is the scooter? The one you linked above clearly has a front motor

It's definitely a front motor scooter then, not sure how you're spinning the rear wheel because the rear only has a drum brake 😅

Are you sure you don't have your fronts and rears confused 😂

I wouldnt be surprised if for your scooters model price is x and for the all wheel drive x + y price

But they just change it in software and for the x price you get only rear wheel drive and front wheel regen

You could trace the wire coming from the front and unplug the connector. Use a meter set for AC volts and measure across any two of the 3 wires while turning the front wheel. See if you get a voltage.
