My goped esr build. BLDC hydraulic brakes

Hey guys first time post on here but I’ve been using this site for advice for a while. I’ve been a diehard goped fan since I got my first one for my 13th birthday. That was a goped sport and I must have taken that engine apart 100 times. I got my first esr a few years ago when one turned up for $100 on Craigslist. I didn’t believe that it was good because I didn’t know they made electric scooters! Anyway I bought it and as anyone who owned one knows how slow and heavy they are. Behind the times Eve when they came out. It sat for a while and I decided to sell it but before I sold it o figured I’d see if there was anything that could be done with it. I saw some people putting these brushless skateboard motors on them so I figured I’d give it a try. The build was very similar to my current one and I fell in love. A few months later I had it in the back of a truck where it bounced out and was lost forever. I neeeeded another one.

After searching forever one popped up for sale and I left a kids birthday party to get it. The only picture was a picture taken from eBay but I didn’t care. We agreed on $80 and I was on my way. When she took it out of the trunk it was a hoverboard! I hit the jackpot! Anyway I started building it the way of my original but kept going where I left off. So here’s where I’m at.


Motor- flipsky 63100
Controller- spintend ubox 150amp
Batteries- homemade with old power tool 21700 cells. One battery is 15s2p
The other is 15s1p
BMS- Daly balance 100’s
Charger- cheapo Amazon cut open and installed internally.
9t front sprocket and 72t rear sprocket with custom made dual roller bearing manual tensioner.

The brakes were lacking big time and the reverse current braking was just too much and would overload the controller or bms’s and just turn off mid stop so I needed real rear brakes. My original intention was to copy the optional rear brake setup that hopped sold and use another mad dog mechanical caliper but then I figured if I’m going this far might as well go hydraulic. Ddm sells an adapter that bolts to the original wheels to mount a mountain bike style rotor so I figured I’d make it work. I drew up a rough draft of a bracket and got out the old grinder again. They work extremely well. The rear wheel will easily lock up so it takes some fines. The front was close to a direct bolt on just had to cut down the bracket a little.

I know I should be using new batteries and there’s a lot of tape and hot glue but this was done relatively cheap and all that stuff is hidden anyway.

With a 68t sprocket in the rear is got it to about 35mph. With the 72 it’s about 25mph. I only use it to move around at work so I prefer the fun torque to top speed at the moment.

I lurked for 10 years before making an account, there is just so much good info to absorb, heck, I'm STILL finding threads I've not seen before.

Is the Vesc thermally bonded to the chassis?

Looks like you could get a little more chain engagement on that 9t counter shaft sprocket by adding a few chain links, and running the chain over the first in feed roller instead of under, should help with premature wear.
Of course, if it works, it works, don't mind me.

Hmm, interesting, I wonder where the weak link is.
I run full strength variable regen(separate regen throttle on ADC2), on all my Vesc controllers, the only time it hiccups, is if the controller is not finely tuned to the motor.
The caveat; my BMS is not in the charge/discharge path
 
I’m not sure I couldn’t get a variable brake to work it was basically all or nothing no matter what setting I had on adc2. I’m still learning the parameters in the app.
